So a Republican friend sent me this:

Despite Trump saying this:

“I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions,” he said.

I told my friend that I thought that Trump may add some additional hoops to jump through, but that businesses will convince him that they MUST be able to import workers. When faced with a choice between workers and business, Trump will choose business. My friend said "We'll see". Indeed we will.

Trump does not give a shit about immigration. Never has. His companies benefit from immigration loopholes.

2. I don't think he is going to do a thing

In about 3 months every one of his campaign rhetoric will be out the window including the wall.

3. I've always said that all they have to do to cut the flow of undocumented workers

is to come down HARD on the employers who hire them. Fund enforcement efforts and assess massive fines and jail time for the employers. But no one ever suggests that because it's "anti-business".

and loosen restrictions on them. Most of his supporters won't notice, because H1b visas are generally not in fields they care about.

13. Meh...one of the problems with the rust belt, and red states in general...

they don't seem to care much about retraining for different careers/jobs. H1bs aren't used to fill blue collar jobs. They go to techies and engineers that require the extended education that they won't seek out. Trump lied to them, constantly. They will have to learn that the hard way. Meanwhile, the rest of us get to suffer with them.

It's not just about "cheap labor." In some cases it's about finding someone who can do the job.
