DeVos Appointment "An Insult..." Americans United for Separation of Church and State

The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, issued the following statement:

“The appointment of Betsy DeVos to oversee the U.S. Department of Education is an insult to public education. DeVos is a divisive figure who has spent much of her career working to privatize public education. She has fought to divert resources away from public schools into private, mostly religious institutions. She is the leader of the crusade to create school vouchers across the country.

“Ninety percent of American children rely on public schools for an education. The country deserves an Education Secretary who will advocate for those children and their families and represent their interests. Instead, we have an ideologue who favors privatizing education.

“Private school vouchers violate the fundamental principle of religious freedom because they fund religious education with taxpayer dollars. This is indeed a dark day for public education in America.”



Betsy Devos and her husband both believe that Creationism (under the BS heading, "Intelligent Design&quot should be taught in school.

In 2002, while a congressman from Indiana, he gave a short speech on the floor of Congress denying evolution, and used quite a few misleading, if not outright false, claims.

"Like the theory that was believed in by every signer of the Declaration of Independence. Every signer of the Declaration of Independence believed that men and women were created and were endowed by that same Creator with certain unalienable rights. The Bible tells us that God created man in his own image, male and female. He created them. And I believe that, Mr. Speaker.

And I also believe that someday scientists will come to see that only the theory of intelligent design provides even a remotely rationale explanation for the known universe."

Their world headquarters is in Grand Rapids, MI. The entire DeVos family are theocratic Calvanists. The city rolls up the sidewalks downtown on Sundays.

They are disgusting people.

Obviously, the intent of her appointment is to dismantle a functioning public education system.
