CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) — Charleston police said a fatal shooting of a 15 year old in the East End occurred after the victim bumped into the man who is now charged with his murder and the two exchanged words.

William Ronald Pulliam, 62, has been charged with first-degree murder, Lt. Steve Cooper of the Charleston Police Department said

The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Monday near Nancy Street and Washington Street East.

A criminal complaint said Pulliam exchanged words with the victim, James Harvey Means after the victim bumped into Pulliam near the Dollar General store on Washington Street East.

Later, a witness said in the complaint that Pulliam walked by a house that Means and his friends were sitting at, which led to another verbal dispute. The victim walked across the street to confront Pulliam, which led to the shooting, the complaint said.

The complaint said Pulliam confessed to shooting Means with a .380 caliber revolver because he felt threatened. The complaint said Pulliam said, "The way I look at it, that's another piece of trash off the street." Pulliam also told police that after the shooting he ate dinner and went to a friend's house.
