Diageo to move Captain Morgan aging and warehousing to MD; rum production to stay in Virgin Islands
Diageo USVI announced Friday that the company plans to close its rum aging and warehousing operation on St. Croix by the end of 2017 and move that portion of its Virgin Islands operation to a facility in Maryland.
Kristin Crofoot, a Diageo spokeswoman, said in a prepared statement that the move will not impact the territorys rum cover-over money the excise tax money that flows into the territorys coffers when V.I.-produced rum is sold in the United States because the Captain Morgan distillery will continue to produce rum on St. Croix.
