Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain fired a shot across the president-elects bow on Saturday when he said that under no conditions will the U.S. return to its enhanced interrogation techniques like waterboarding under a Pres. Donald Trump.
Politico said McCain was speaking at the annual Halifax International Security Forum when he told the audience, I dont give a damn what the president of the United States wants to do. We will not waterboard. We will not torture people
It doesnt work.
On the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly said that his administration would disregard the Geneva Convention and other rules of international combat if the U.S.s interests were at stake.
What do you think about waterboarding? Trump said at one rally. I like it a lot. I dont think its tough enough.
The audience roared its approval.

(31,163 posts)I am no means a fan of McCain, but Trump needs to hear this from his own party.

(40,416 posts)But he is a guy who reported from war zones all over the planet, unlike Drumpf, who only served in military school because he couldn't help himself. That's what a rich father does with a spoiled brat who misbehaves.
Now look what we have!!!!!

(1,076 posts)Since I'm posting here, I'm MUST be a democrat. That aside, what the good Senator said, I stand with him. I won't vote for him. But I would hope he can cross the aisle should the need arise to pull the rug out from under Drump.
I lost it when Drump said something negative about the POW pilot, McCain.

I live in Arizona and he wanted a "dang fence" as much if not more than Trump because McCain strikes me as someone more serious.

(13,776 posts)Regarding torture he said, "This isn't about who THEY are, it's about who WE are."
I'll never forget that statement, during very dark times with torture storeis coming out, Abu Ghraib, etc.
