Quote from Christopher Hitchens regarding dictatorships

Ouch. This is what I feel, subject to caprice and unable to relax.

“The true essence of a dictatorship is in fact not its regularity but its unpredictability and caprice; those who live under it must never be able to relax, must never be quite sure if they have followed the rules correctly or not.”

it is the intermittent, unpredicable nature of the parenting that really screws them up. Sometimes mommy is awake and responsive, daddy is attentive and empathetic...other times they are checked out on drugs or their own ego or are raging. It's the lack of consistency, action/reaction, that really fucks with them.

Sheesh. Nice to look forward to.

boundaries. Personal and political. The dems have to be on it. The media needs to aid us in this by being relentless. So far I'm not sure they'll do that but in a sense we're all in it together. Poorly run chaotic government will hurt everyone.
