Could Even Evan McMullin be the next president?

His plan is clearly to win just 1 state, Utah, but if neither Hilary nor Trump secure 270, his name would go forward to the House of Representatives. The House GOP will vote for their old staffer.

Hillary really needs to win a clear Majority of the popular vote.

If he wins Utah, and neither Hillary nor Trump get 270 votes, McMullin thinks there is chance congress will pick McMullin. That's McMullin's actual plan-I saw an interview with him.

If nobody gets 270 then McMullen will most likely get selected by the House.

If Trump can win the Romney states, and he also wins Ohio, Iowa, Florida and Wisconsin, then Hillary will be stuck at 269. She can hit 270 with a win in Nebraska-2, but she might also lose an electoral vote in Maine-2.

I have been pleading for her to go to northern Maine for a day to campaign, but people on DU keep dismissing the importance of that electoral vote. They don't even believe it is worth one day--or one night, after a day in New Hampshire. It is crazy IMO.

I could very easily see McMullen as the next president of the United States.

vote for Paul Ryan instead of Trump.

Then the House would have to choose between Trump, Clinton and Ryan?

Wouldn't that be a circus?

What if 25 faithless Democratic electors voted for Joe Manchin.

Then the Republican House would have to choose between Trump, Clinton and Manchin.

Some fun possibilities.

How would the Senate settle Kaine and Pence and um.. Mindy? Give it to Kaine as a sitting member of the body and a peace offering to the Dems

then Paul Ryan would have 10 electoral votes.

Popular votes don't have anything to do with anything.

I would guess the senate would vote for Pence for vice-president regardless of who the House voted for for president.

those republican congresscritters will be running for re-election in another 2 years, most of them in strongly republican districts that did *not* vote for mcmullin.

they represent districts where the vast majority of the voters -- certainly the republican primary voters -- wanted trump.

so, in practice, i don't see it happening even if hillary somehow didn't garner 270.

Seriously, what the fuck? The Republicans will pick Trump. These guys are too terrified of their base to criticize Trump. You think those same people won't vote for him?

If the vote was left up to the House, they would pick Trump, the GOPer with the most votes. The House GOP fear their base if they tried to install someone who did not get the most GOP votes. If they were going to pick someone other than Trump, they would have tried to pull something like that at the GOP convention.

It is at least 270 of the electoral vote. GWB didn't win the popular vote, he was annointed by the Supreme Court when they didn't allow the recount to continue

Look for a broad national surge in his support from today on to the election, with virtually all the swing state voters flocking to his camp. Voters of all political persuasions have been secretly swooning for McMullin for weeks now, and it's time they made good on their bone-deep zeal for his candidacy.
