Ted Cruz wants to block Supreme Court appointments forever

I assume this is his plan only if Hillary is elected president. Although Cruz is the most hated man in the Senate, I have the feeling his Republican colleagues would go along with him on this.

The bottom line here seems to be that President Hillary Clinton will have her hands full in appointing another justice to the SCOTUS. Which makes one speculate as to what would happen if one of the conservative justices (Kennedy, Thomas, Alito, Roberts) were to become totally disabled by a stroke or some such, or even died in office. That would leave four liberal justices and three conservatives. Would the Republicans then try to impeach one of the liberal justices (Kagen, Sotomeyer, Breyer, Ginsberg) for some made up reason?

The Republican Party has had their way in the appointment of judges (both to the Supreme Court and federal district courts) for decades. They have tried to use the courts to push through the parts of their agenda that can’t get legislated into law by the legislative branch (the House and Senate). Now, their sole aim is to make sure that a Democrat can never appoint judges who will balance the scales.

But back to Cruz. It goes without saying that the man is a big time dick. And the Republican Party as a whole isn’t much better. Few of them actually believe in democracy with a small d. They believe that their demented Christo/fascist agenda represents “true Christianity” and “The American Way.” At least they pretend to believe that. But their beliefs, tactics and practices are anything but American, or Christian for that matter.

If we don’t take over the Senate in this election, their ugliness will hold sway for years to come. They will do everything in their power to hamstring Hillary and will probably hold congressional investigations into every aspect of her life. At some point, some asshole congressman like Daryl Issa might even announce that he’s found proof that she eats babies. And the sad part is that almost half the people in this country will believe him. How much does that suck? But it’s what we can expect for the four years following a Hillary victory. And it's in keeping with Ted Cruz's position of denying her any Supreme Court appointments.

Sometimes I wonder if all Republicans live in an alternate reality. If so, it seems to be a place in which fairness, justice, and plain human decency do not exist. They seem to believe that lying, cheating, hatred and being absolutely despicable are okay, and they spend most of their time convincing voters that their reality is the only "true" reality.

I really don't understand them, or know what to call them but a gaggle of totally demented motherf$#%^@s who have no place in decent society.

Sleasiastes I and II. The first deals with controlling women's reproductive rights and gay hatred, the second is focused on God's desire to pack the USSC with ultra conservative knuckledraggers and keeping dark skinned people out a America.

There is some debate as to the authorship and period it was written, with the domioninists insisting that God created the ballpoint pen around the same time that Jesus rode into Jurusalem on the back of a dinosaur.

Anytime a Republican starts going on about "the will of the people," someone should be standing by with a paintball gun.

10. I wonder how big Cruz's "base" is

My guess is that Cruz is not very popular among Republican voters and that if he were ever nominated for the presidency, they would have to hold their noses to vote for him.

And my other guess is that if he runs in 2020, Hillary will bury him more deeply than she buries Trump in this election.

(Given the latest polls, maybe that's wishful thinking. But, really now. Who wants to imagine the nightmare of a Trump presidency coming about? Who wants to imagine that many voters being so incredibly irresponsible, ignorant and harboring a wish for the death of our democracy?)

do they really think they are going to have vacancies throughout Hillary's term just because they don't like her? They don't even know who the nominee(s) are yet.

12. If they hold the Senate, they've got the votes to block her

Republicans really don't give a rat's ass as to what's right and decent. Power is all they care about. Their base agrees with them and if they want to block Hillary's SCOTUS appointments, they will. And their attitude is "Fuck anyone who doesn't like it."
