A friend on FB posted an article about Trump is killing off Ivanka's brand with women. A friend of hers went off about Hillary Clinton (of course), saying he buys all of Trump's stuff. I asked which stuff, the things he had made in China or the gear that got made in Mexico. This is his reply: (It's copied verbatim, so all mistakes are his.)

Tariffs are imposed on cheaper imported widgets to raise their prices so that their prices are similar to American-made widgets .... This stuff maybe imported by American companies but it is not American-made. These items are made in China or India or where ever using nearly-slave labor for distribution and sales in other markets. It' s cheaper for US companies to buy this stuff over there, import it into the US and then sell it to US retailers. Tariffs would have kept the cheap imports comparably-priced to the Americans made products that were made to be sold in the US market.

When commenting on FB, I use the same principle as I do on DU. I do a search, find the facts that back up my position and post it with a link to the source.

It doesn't have to be political, just yesterday my favorite college football team soundly defeated another school. A friend posted that the loosing team focused on books, not football. I knew my favorite team had very high GPA for NCAA athletes. I found a link giving the average GPA for the team and as a bonus the article pointed out that the players displayed their individual GPA on their helmets if above 3.0.

It helps when you have facts.

BTW: The team is Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats, 5 time National Champions Division II and currently holds the longest winning streak in any division at 22 games.

I follow Div II because these players have to think about life after football, not many make it to the NFL.
