An important note from the Rude Pundit:

… I know a shit-ton of people down South and in the Midwest, working- and middle-class whites, most of whom never went to college, some not even graduating from high school, who think Donald Trump is a fucking hateful fraud, a showboating pissant, and a giant talking turd. When you try to “figure out” what drives Trump supporters and think that those of us who say, “Yeah, fuck them” are smug coast-clinging liberals, you are insulting the fuck out of the millions of people in Trump country who grew up in similar circumstances and decided that being racist, sexist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant, and conspiracy-theory-loving jerk is wrong and work to make their area of the United States a little more tolerant and progressive…

My horse shoer is a self described redneck good old boy. He wears bib overalls and clod hoppers, plays banjo & goes to a holy roller church. He hated Bush, he voted for Obama twice & hates trump with a passion. He lives on the family farm with 3 generations of family.

I live in a sort of purple state but the dumpster fire has lit a pile of trash under the fannies of a bunch of well off rancher types in Montana, the rest of us roll our eyes and keep up polite appearances when in the presence of those who got lit up and are also packin' heat. And we do vote, educated or not.

I actually think there are a good number of liberals here but they are concentrated in and around the Southside area. A lot of young professionals that are Dems. But I think overall the nasty right is much more vocal here and Dems seem quiet.

On my floor at work there are 65 people and only 3 of us are white Democrats and the other 2 are fairly moderate. I mainly talk politics at work, quietly, with my more liberal black friends. I live in middle class suburbia and it's a heavily Repug area.

We moved from Pittsburgh to Jacksonville at the end of '97. During the three months when my wife was selling the house up there and I was buying the house down here, I'd sign all my letters and emails with "The only liberal in Jacksonville". She kept replying, "Have you been to the UU Church yet?" Well, I finally found friends that I could see eye to eye with there. Then I met all the folk music people and I found more. Now the bluegrassers are still right of center, but to quote Anne Feeney, "There are more of us out there than they think."

that is what you are referencing, right? I'm surprised they are still open, used to go there in the late 60's70's, to their coffee houses, and listen to folk music and hang out in a friendly environment. I'm going through some not so good changes in my life and have been looking to expand my small social circle, so maybe I will check it out? I'm kind of shy in groups, so going by myself is a little scary, but no pain, no gain?

You don't happen to know the Noll's do you They moved to Jax around that time snd were originally from Pittsburgh. I went to several parties at their house years ago and know they had a number of relatives move here from there. Through changes in our lives, we lost touch, although I remain FB friends with Chuck. You can send me a PM if you want or this could be a swing and a miss, lol.

look at the bright red areas all over the country. I think Wyoming and one of the Dakotas has the highest percentage. I know there are counties in Montana that were 90% republican. South gets the blame but racism is all over.

And no, I'm not doing the 'concern' thing on it. The sentiments are correct, the facts are correct, it's just that some people won't get past the title.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/10/donald_trump_s_supporters_are_standing_by_their_man.html

Very little had changed since the last time I visited a Trump rally, back in the primaries. Outside the venue, a woman dressed as Trump led a woman dressed as Hillary around by a metal chain attached to a neck shackle. Inside, a man wore a T-shirt that read, “She’s a cunt. Vote for Trump.” The crowd began to chant “CNN sucks!” all on its own, before anyone had even prompted it to. A solemn recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance bled into “USA! USA!,” which morphed into that old standby: “Lock her up! Lock her up!”

" between the two of those Trump supporters they might have a complete set of teeth"

I see that on every website at some point, as I did the other day on a site with comments about those two wannabe nazi gun owners in VA harassing the Dem candidate's office. I've seen it here several times over the years. Also, nasty comments about how fat people are.

Most of us have suffered quite a bit in our lives financially, and some of us have horrible teeth because of it. Others have weight issues. I really am disappointed when I see people run down the weight and dental problems of our adversaries. So, kudos to the RP for saying basically. hey, we have people against Donald's filth who are from trailer parks, farms, the country, etc. Let each person reflect their views by their words and actions - not through their appearance.
