How Half Of America Lost Its F**king Mind

http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-trumps-rise-that-no-one-talks-about/

I'm going to explain the Donald Trump phenomenon in three movies. And then some text.

There's this universal shorthand that epic adventure movies use to tell the good guys from the bad. The good guys are simple folk from the countryside... while the bad guys are decadent assholes who live in the city and wear stupid clothes:...

Already some of you have gotten angry, feeling this gut-level revulsion at any attempt to excuse or even understand these people. After all, they're hardly people, right? Aren't they just a mass of ignorant, rageful, crude, cursing, spitting subhumans?

Gee, I hope not. I have to hug a bunch of them at Thanksgiving. And when I do, it will be with the knowledge that if I hadn't moved away, I'd be on the other side of the fence, leaving nasty comments on this article the alternate universe version of me wrote.

Seems most of America and the world knows Trump is a huge turd that should be avoided at all costs.

To those ignored, suffering people, Donald Trump is a brick chucked through the window of the elites. "Are you assholes listening now?"

I, myself, grew up in a red part of a very blue state, and now live near NYC in a very blue state. And I think on average, he's right about this;

Provincial vs urban. It's true in every state, and probably in most modern countries. I know it's true in france, for instance, and most likely in italy.

Urban concerns are totally different from rural. And I know from experience that rural life is slow and often boring and repetitive.

The wealth gap is very real, and many jobs are now outsourced to other countries or robots. We're not manufacturing or building like we used to. Solar and nuclear are replacing coal (thank heavens, unless you're in a coal town) and oil. So, it does make sense that rural people can feel forgotten.

Now, it actually is a flight of fantasy to think that this raging ape will ever give a crap about the rural. But he is throwing a rock through the front window, and they like it.

He's the freaking Hulk, unlike anyone else ever has been. And the fact that he deals with hotels and casinos rather than hedge funds means they sort of relate to him: His sleaze is at least familiar on some levels.

This is a badly organized revolution of the 99%, but they don't know that's who they are.

This should be read by every person on the left, but it won't. Many of those that do will dismiss it, and call it bullshit.

I think the author excuses some pretty heinous behavior and beliefs ... but does offer a very thoughtful rationale. On some points (maybe many) he is likely spot on and certainly provokes the confrontation of biases

Of course, I don't agree with wingers at all, but this article goes a long way in helping non-wingers understand where they're coming from.
