(2,062 posts)Sorry, no such thing anymore. Too many would be in jail, actually I believe at one time treason was punishable by death.

(40,416 posts)It's in Article III of the fucking US Constitution.
To those who screech treason for everything the GOP does, here is treason under US law:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
We are not, by Constitutional standards "at war" with anybody, and we haven't been since August, 1945.
I am very uncomfortable with these casual charges of treason. Knowing why Madison put this in the Constitution is part of learning why such charges should not be made casually.

I hope more comes out about this. Outrageous.

(1,832 posts)USA has an extremely localized voting system, where the methods of voting and counting are chosen in lots of different ways, making it impossible to do a centralized and untraceable hack. As an example, the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections has explained, that they have seven steps for proofing their numbers, and all needs to fit before it is approved. The Clinton side is now shouting: "Voter fraud is possible, and might happen" together with the Trump campaign, where they could have been building trust.
