saw this from a CBS poll:
In Utah - a reliably Republican state Trump is at 37 percent, with independent candidate Evan McMullin at 20 percent and Hillary Clinton at 20 percent.

I've seen other polls showing McMullin (a Utah Mormon) doing much better.
It doesn't look like Hillary will win Utah, so would it not make sense for her to tell her Utah supporters to vote for McMullin?

(2,117 posts)If neither candidate gets 270 because McMullin wins Utah, the House decides the next president out of the three with the most electoral votes. If McMullin wins Utah, the Republican representatives then have a "sane" Republican to rally around.

(39,343 posts)If you live in a solid red or solid blue state and want to protest vote, vote for Hillary.
If she's ahead by ten million, vote for Hillary.

(17,863 posts)to vote for Clinton. I recommend Johnson as an alternative.
There is a scenario in which McMullin could win the presidency. Highly unlikely but an interesting read to see how the Electoral College works (top 3 vote getters are voted upon).

(19,264 posts)Now I think Hillary will be 300+ in electoral college and if that happens it is a non-issue either way. However in the race tightened up and McMullin took Utah then it could be both Clinton and Trump end up under 270 at which point Congress decides the outcome. At best you end up with VP Pence at worst you end up with Trump and Pence.

(50,986 posts)Clinton-Kaine as a sane, mature, and thoughtful alternative to many Utah voters' usual voting preferences, and maybe subtly challenge them for any support they might give the Republican ticket, since it is comprised of two notably lousy excuses for public servants. She could use much calmer language than that but still get the point through.
I'm not impressed with Evan McMullin just because he doesn't appear to act like a horse's ass like Trump.

(118 posts)A) McMullin is a neocon and B) Clinton can win UT

(58,656 posts)Basically, McMullen voters are pulled from the Repub base that would vote Trump or stay home. Either way, it does nothing for Clinton.
If McMullen wins Utah, who cares? Clinton has the other 49 states.
