I have no idea how many extreme drumpf supporters there are (those who would actually try to shut down the govt, etc) -- but I'm feeling this huge knot in my stomach. Are they a "force to be reckoned with?" I read these scary posts and wonder if things are really that volatile. Is the government aware of these threats from the crazies?? How seriously should we take the threat of "pitchforks And torches?"
Or is it a lot of bluster?
I really hope cool heads prevail.

It's wise to be prepared but no amount of failing to concede will stop the rule of law in this country. Thank goodness.

Kars for Kidz does good work with the money that they raise. That the NRA is competing with them for donations is disgusting

(22,899 posts)But we know from past experience that drumpf doesn't let go of things easily-- if at all. I could not believe he dragged out that ridiculous birther subject for years-- I thought he'd give up and go away. No such luck. And he loves riling up his minions, who would do anything for him.

That all said, Trump could start Trump TV with Roger Ailes. What a hate fest that would be, and, possibly start another party with disgruntled republicans.

(7,968 posts)But the anger is so deep I have no clue how to turn it around. They will NEVER admit they are in the wrong. Even the best documentary would not sway them. If HRC is elected, I will not be surprised at anything.

(1,965 posts)After HRC wins, and wins big, if there are scattered pockets of riots and even Govt. building take-overs or at least extremely vandalized. I also won't be surprised if, in a few spots, it gets bad enough that the National guard has to be called in. Hell, I'd bet on it.

(2,003 posts)Polls indicate Trump is doing very well with military voters. That's a concern.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)But I do not think our military and especially National Guard deserve to have their loyalty questioned.
There are many, many republican Trump voters, both military and civilian who would not hesitate to take arms against any seditious Trump supporters.
But his supporters will go back to their Natural Lights, hot pockets and Duck Dynasty. Because you can't overthrow a government when you need a CPAP to sleep.(fair dig as I use a CPAP).

(13,081 posts)White people only riot after winning/losing a sporting event. Most of Trump's voters are too fat, old, and suburban to actually organize a an angry mob.
The rest of your post is spot on. I'd add the likelihood of bombings.

(1,508 posts)All this angst and crazy talk is just on the internet and the cable news world. I see zero evidence of this stuff in the real world.
We will have the American people and the force of the government behind us to put down any illegal "insurrection". And if we're strategic we can pin this directly on the Republican party for decades, assuming the Republican party survives that long.

(220 posts)Hi,
The Die hard Trump supporters have had to endure, as they put it, something they thought would never occur in their lifetime. 8 Years of a Black president in office & now a Woman may become President in their lifetime, and Congress may go in Democratic hands. Can you imagine what this is doing to their little reptile brains.
It would not surprise me if there is some random violence after the election. I live in a very Red area & I plan to keep my mouth shut & be very careful after the election.
As Democrats. we have had to endure decades of Republican hate & manure & being in the minority & we understand it & how to deal with it. The narrative may be changed for these people & that is something they can not comprehend.

(1,214 posts)I'm a little bit worried, to be honest. But my usual response to worries is to look for solutions. So around election day, I'll be ready to "shelter in place" or evacuate.
Our apartment complex has quite a few Hispanic and Indian residents, in an area near Quail Hollow and Southpark Mall, and probably more right-wing than left. (The only Trump signs I've seen are just down the road). If somebody was targeting immigrants, they might see this as a good place to attack, but I doubt that the homeowners in this neighborhood would damage their property values by starting a riot. Of course somebody from outside might.
So, my wife and I have increased our awareness of who is around, bought a can of pepper spray (I ruled out a gun, I don't want to kill anybody; all I want is to encourage them to leave us alone), and have a plan in place to evacuate ourselves and our dogs quickly if needed. I try to keep extra non-perishable food and water around anyway. This little bit of "prepper" comes from living for years in Boone, NC, where it is possible to get seriously snowed-in, and from growing up in very rural conditions as a child.
We always keep one car maintained and gassed-up, and we have a good route (away from major roads) planned to a relative's house in the suburbs. But people who don't have somewhere else to go... I would worry about them if things got really out of hand. Hopefully the police and National Guard will be on the side of civilization.

(22,899 posts)If it turns out you didn't need to-- no harm done. I'd much rather err on the side of over-vigilance than the opposite.
Though I'm in California, I know it doesn't exempt me. I hope law authorities will be on full alert everywhere-- they have been for less threatening things than this, after all

(1,786 posts)That it is just talk and think it is no big deal. That we heard the same thing when President Obama won. The rights hatred for Obama is nothing compared to the hatred they have had for Clinton for decades now. These people have had 20+ years of listening to Limbaugh and about half that time listening to the likes of Hannity/Beck/Orielly/Savage.
Personally I think it should it taken very very seriously.

I see a nightmare if Trump's elected. His thugs will roam the streets and police will not respond. That's how it went in Nazi Germany. I expect it will begin with Muslims, but will spread quickly to others. I honestly believe there will be chaos.

My history tells me to be cautious. I read all the right wing crazy stuff on the internets, every day and pay attention to the sources of the threats. I expect the feds and local law enforcement are doing the same, seriously.
What matters is sanity and intelligence. Do the crazies have either or both. No.

That being said, I'm not at all worried about an uprising. The vast, vast majority of these dunces have never even served a single day in the military, and would be crushed like a bug if they tried something. Still, it's always good to be aware of these maniacs.
