It is in Illinois. I was a county chair and me and all other Texas chairs and County Clerks had to get the machines programmed in Illinois. It gets scary. The Russians can screw up the election pre voting but not post voting, that is if the programmer matches matches the names and votes.
It is worrysome. I believe the city id Palentine , Ill.

I get the concern over vote rigging but am curious how many cities you think a program needs to be programmed in to make it secure.

(2,535 posts)Texas programming. It is all done in Palentine, Ill. If one companies security is breached, another one may not.

(35,320 posts)1000 is many. But if that's 2% of the total, meh.
Not all other Texas precincts have their eSlates programmed elsewhere; perhaps most don't. I honestly don't know. But 5 seconds at the Google came up with http://traviscountyclerk.org/eclerk/Content.do?code=E.25:
Ballot programming performed by Travis County, not sent to the vendor.
I assume, but won't bother to try to prove, that this is of long standing.
Russian hacks of the Ukrainian voting system I think are probative. Channel 1, affiliated with the Russian government. aired a news story that said what the election results were and gave a screenshot of the electoral commission that purportedly aired on Ukrainian tv.
Except that the Ukrainians caught the Russian virus which would have produced precisely that screen before the vote was tallied. The error was fixed. The totals were presumably correct. Instead of having fascist-lite parties win the elections, they came in at a couple of % points. (Die-hard loyalists, both in Russia, Ukraine, and DU, took to heart the false reporting and continue to insist that the fascists form a large portion of the legislature. The dolts.)
Note that the Russians were not subtle. They were interested in propaganda value and disruption, because the election-night totals, whatever they are, are just that. Election-night, preliminary, unofficial, totals. It's the final canvassing is done a week or two later that matters.

(10,005 posts)Most are using a printed ballot which the voter fill in the circle then the ballot is fed into a ballot reader for counting.
The ballots are kept and provide a backup which can be counted by people in case of a challenge or lost of power.

(2,535 posts)who enter in all the super long list of candidates. The county collects the ballots and simply reads the scanner printout. The Republicans bitch about VOTER fraud but most of the votes are stolen by the counters.
