I have grate respect for women, more than anyone else. Who you gonna believe, you lying eyes or me? Say, at those things real or silicon? Let me check them out. Great nips, babe. Here, let's see how wine flows between them."

We are in receipt of your communication regarding this matter. We have consulted with our clients, to wit, People Magazine. Their response, which we hasten to forward to you and your client, is brief, consisting of only two words:
"Fuck Off!"
Very sincerely yours,

(101,322 posts)Dear Sir,
We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd. His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issue of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory. We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter.
Mr Arkell's first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply.
Yours,
(Signed)
Goodman Derrick & Co.

Dear Sirs,
We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr. J. Arkell.
We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: fuck off.
Yours,
Private Eye

(146,317 posts)Some attorneys are quick to send off letters demanding this or that, as directed by their clients, who pay the attorneys dearly to write such cease and desist demand letters.
Often, the letter gets the desired result. However, if it does not, the original client is often not inclined to continue to pay the attorney to make further attempts. So, the matter is dropped.
Such demand and cease and desist letters are often a one-shot deal. If they fail, nothing more happens. Publications get such letters all the time, and routinely answer them in a dismissive way. Most often, that ends the discussion. It's very costly to bring a matter to court, and most clients are not willing to pay the freight to do so. It's a crap shoot, really.
On the other hand, I've had some success from cease and desist letters written by my "Attorney" on his "official letterhead." I won't provide any details, but they've been successful in getting annoying trollish people off my back in more than one case.
If necessary, I can compose a very official looking missive from my "Attorney." Many examples exist online that make good templates.

(13,603 posts)Most people (i.e., working people the hideous Trump parasites treat as slaves) don't have the resources to defend themselves. But this is different and doomed to failure. People Magazine and NYT have full-time career legal staffs that will gladly defend them into their retirement, where their successors will just pick up the ball and keep going for as long as it takes to drain Donald dry. It won't come to that, of course, as none of these lawsuits has any merit anyway and likely will be summarily dismissed.

(34,136 posts)How is including those statements "actionable"? They are not libel, they are not malicious, and I don't see how they damage Melania at all.
Plus the "remedy" to attempt to force People to permanently remove the statements from the story is ridiculous. Millions of people have read that story, a good portion have copied or saved it. The statements cannot be removed from the internet anymore than Melania's husband's gross statements can be removed from the internet!
How stupid is Melania Trump and how fucking stupid is her attorney?
NOTE: I am not an attorney so the statements of mine above are my opinion based on decades of experience only.

(31,394 posts)After the first debate I was somewhat concerned for Melania--despite her deal with the devil--but one has to wonder whether
she even knows The Donald is using her this way.
That's just pathetic. It is entirely possible that Melania has no memory of the event. The first year after each of my children were born was a complete
sleep deprived blur.

(3,284 posts)I think it was all Trump himself.
Lately I've noticed that she looks very unhappy and stiff when she makes appearances. At the debate on Sunday, I noticed that she didn't really interact with her husband, by touching or smiling at him.
She looks like a hostage in this relationship and I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear he's abusing her, physically as well as verbally. His first wife alleged that he physically assaulted her, which she later recounted (probably because he threatened to cut her off financially).
Also, I noticed she wore a blouse which covered her entire neck, which would make sense if she wanted to cover bruises:
I feel bad for her if that's what's going on.
