Homeopathic "medicine" can be dangerous. Even lethal.

Like in this case.

FDA says teething tablets may be linked to deaths of 10 children

(WFLA) – The FDA said Wednesday teething tablets may be connected to the deaths of 10 children. In addition, the tablets may be linked to around 400 adverse incidents.

The adverse affects include seizures, difficulty breathing, lethargy, excessive sleepiness, muscle weakness, skin flushing, constipation, difficulty urinating and agitation, officials said. The effects occurred after children used homeopathic teething tablets or gels.

Caregivers should stop using the products, the FDA said. The tablets are used to soothe babies who are teething.

Although the company claims in it's statement that there's not much--"The amount of Belladonna used in Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets is miniscule. There’s two trillionths of a milligram in a tablet"--so maybe they measured wrong, or messed up something else...

NON-amounts of any chemicals… but somehow an empty placebo is causing deaths?

Guess what:

#1. Taking medications AS PRESCRIBED is a leading cause of death in America
#2. Correlation does not mean causation
#3. Ever watch drug ads on tv with all the POSSIBLE side-effects? If someone is taking a drug and they have diarrhea, diarrhea is listed as a POSSIBLE side-effect.

So if they have more belladonna than they should in a pill, it could prove fatal. These are things that are regulated in our pharmaceutical industry.

Homeopathy and alternative medicine is junk science sold by charlatans to the gullible.

the amount of belladonna in their products varies widely and at the upper limits represents a health threat to infants.

The FDA put out a warning five years ago yet these companies are still killing kids.

And since I enjoy a good laugh as well, let's take a look at what you're saying:

You've spent years assuring us that homeopathic tablets contained such vanishingly small NON-amounts of any chemicals

Yeah, I doubt they said anything of the sort. Nothing can "contain such vanishingly small non-amounts of any chemicals" because pretty much everything you can think of is made of chemicals.

Rather, I'm sure they said homeopathic "medications" don't contain any of the "beneficial" chemicals homeopaths claim they do. E.g., there is no fucking onion skin in your onion skin tablet. It's just hydrogen chloride.

A CHEMICAL.

Guess what:

No. Don't tell me what to do.

#1. Taking medications AS PRESCRIBED is a leading cause of death in America

Leading causes of death, according to the CDC:

Heart disease: 614,348
Cancer: 591,699
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 147,101
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 136,053
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 133,103
Alzheimer's disease: 93,541
Diabetes: 76,488
Influenza and Pneumonia: 55,227
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 48,146
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 42,773

Ruh-roh, Raggy.

#2. Correlation does not mean causation

Tell that to the homeopaths.

#3. Ever watch drug ads on tv with all the POSSIBLE side-effects? If someone is taking a drug and they have diarrhea, diarrhea is listed as a POSSIBLE side-effect.

How is this relevant? Is death a possible side effect of homeopathic teething "medication"?

There is a big article in the KC Star this morning about how many women underwent unnecessary surgery and drug therapy because mammograms picked up harmless cancers that would have never caused a problem.

I go if I am really sick or hurt but I don't go in for all the "routine tests."

Just don't trust any of it.

Cancer is not harmless. And tumors are NOT cancer.

Your google search, of course, supports that (aside from the Mercola article, but only an idiot would think anything at Mercola was legit).

She also nearly died of sepsis after a miscarriage because she had a mortal fear of antibiotics and put permanent scars on her legs with an ointment intended to leach toxins out of her skin. Did I mention she was anti-vaccine too?

OK, it's alternative medicine, but if it has an active ingredient in it, it's not homeopathic. Right?
