5 Apocalyptic Realities In A Country That's Out Of Food

By Robert Evans | October 09, 2016 | 151,446 views

"I have a mango tree ... This tree is currently saving my life, but might also get me killed soon."

That's Busteq. He's a middle-class Venezuelan who lives in a nice neighborhood. In short, he's a lot like many of you, except his country (which has more oil than any other nation on earth) saw its currency go tits-up when gas got super cheap last year. This, combined with almost comical levels of government corruption, has brought their civilization to the brink of collapse.

We're barely exaggerating there. Venezuela is now facing the kind of food shortages that mean Busteq and his neighbors are essentially living through the first five minutes of a zombie apocalypse movie. At that time, Busteq probably didn't give much thought to his two mango trees -- the same as how you don't spend much time thinking about whether your windows can keep out the undead.

I understand Syria coming up in the debates by why not Venezuela? Maybe because there isn't really any bombing option involved.

Of fomenting the unrest by Maduro
And even some on the left in the US

Better let them fail on their own and let Latin American countries pick the pieces

A power cut interrupted the World Cup qualifying match between Venezuela and Brazil in the Venezuelan city of Merida on Tuesday night.

Brazil were leading 2-0 when the floodlights suddenly went dark in the 74th minute of play.

The match had to be stopped for 22 minutes until some of the lighting went back on.

During the blackout, some Venezuelan fans chanted anti-government slogans and called for a recall referendum.
