(135,425 posts)and no security, she's a fucking moron who made herself an easy target. Spend some money on body men with brains.
Who knows--maybe she's pulling a Trump; she's not as rich as she's pretending to be, and she is trying to exercise an insurance scam against the hotel...?

(35,015 posts)My daughter and I were talking about this last night. She thinks so too, adding that the Wests are thought to be in financial trouble. I'm sure the jewelry was insured so they'll get their $$. Bonus is the free publicity and they get to while about being victims.

(26,094 posts)So, no.

(35,015 posts)Maybe I am misunderstanding insurance for such things. Why have it if compensation is not provided for the loss?
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)for someone who has millions of dollars of jewelry in a hotel room not locked in a safe.
Avalux
(35,015 posts)I wonder how that applies since she wasn't at a hotel but a supposedly private and secure residence. She could argue she felt completely safe leaving her jewels out in the open then turn around and sue the owners of the place. Maybe that's the end game.
malaise
(269,134 posts)Insurers need to add a new clause - if you think your business is to inform the world of your every movement via social media,we are not responsible for your losses.
Why do so many idiots believe anyone cares where they are or where they are going at every given moment.
To cover large amounts of jewelry one needs a special rider to the homeowners insurance policy. I don't travel much but don't a lot of better hotels have safes in the rooms?
A lot of the jewelry she had did not belong to her, it was loaned for fashion week and if she did not follow their guidelines she could be in trouble.
Kanye just bought her that second ring, 20 carats so he must have some money.

(9,359 posts)She was in town for Paris fashion week. Jewelers loan out jewelry to the famous in exchange for name dropping designers. $10 million is a lot in jewelry to be traveling with your own personal stash.

(62,444 posts)The difficulty with staging anything requiring the participation of more than a handful of people is that sooner or later, someone talks or the story otherwise unravels.
I have no opinion, but staging something like this seems like a very risky thing to do.
Avalux
(35,015 posts)However many there were, they may have not been privy to the planning. They may have been hired to do the deed without knowing it was staged. Kim, Kanye and maybe only one other person as the go-between could have planned it, limiting the number of those in the know.
That seems possible to me, especially since Kim was staying at a private residence with no security cameras, and her insistence she stay there alone as her sisters went out accompanied by her bodyguard.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)It would be better if she wasn't, since you can bet they are going over her story repeatedly and looking for inconsistencies.

Who the fuck keeps ten million bucks worth of jewelry without putting it into a hotel safe or bank safe deposit box? That "celebrity apartment building" has to have a safe or celebrities would give it a miss in favor of one that did.
Who the fuck goes to Fashion Week without hiring the stuff instead of wearing that same old bling that they own and that everybody has already seen? She could have hired stuff even she couldn't afford for a nominal fee plus publicity for the jeweler.
Who the fuck robs a high profile star in person, knowing she can ID them later? Why didn't they wait until she went out?
Her story has smelled to high heaven since it broke.
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)Who keeps 11 million bucks worth of jewelry on the table?
Who carries that much around for a photo shoot without security?
If I had to guess, I'd guess that whatever she had stolen were the fakes and the real stuff, if any, was in the vault at her jewelers.
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)and it's worth quite a bit less than that.

(885 posts)can't afford a $4.5 mil engagement ring, but Kanye did. So, $4.5 mil of that was one item, normally worn on your finger. I know my wife takes her ring off sometimes when showering or removing makeup. Although hers isn't worth nearly that much.

(26,094 posts)By someone who works for her and Kanye, and probably where they were staying -- no CCTV.

(36 posts)Snapchatted her jewelry left and right leading up to the "robbery", and the night in question she snapchatted a conversation between her and her sisters at the elevator of the hotel that she "couldn't go with them because she had just gotten her spray tan done and it needed to set" so she let her ONLY security guy leave with her sisters. This couldn't look more set up if she tried. I'm not buying her story at all.

Anyway it's interesting to note the overwhelming opinion of DU on this subject.

(16,966 posts)That's kind of the only thing that really makes sense if it was a real crime. Otherwise, I thought it was more on the fake side. But she says she is suspecting a bodyguard because he would have known the exact timing for this to happen. Since a lot of these type crimes are committed by someone you know, that kind of makes sense.
It's hard to believe, though, since they are all about creating storylines.
