This is "that Mexican thing" Pence was referring to...(as everyone well knows)
Trump's ignorance, prejudice and contempt for people of Mexican ancestry coming through loud and clear for all to see.
Pence refers to Trump's bigotry as "that Mexican thing" - a comment that is little more than a dismissal of how truly egregious Trump's comments were to Mexican-Americans, and the people of Mexico.
Pence, with his dismissive characterization of Trump's vicious attack, has shown how much he agrees with what Trump said. Pence's word choice clearly indicates that he not only agrees with Trump but that he thinks people should just get over it.
Just get over the racism already is the message Pence was conveying. Because not-so-deep-down, Pence thinks that exact same thing as Trump. He thinks Trump spoke the truth.
Pence didn't merely attach himself to a national ticket for the exposure and the possible payoff, Pence attached himself to Trump because he is no less a racist than Trump.
When Pence claimed Trump wasn't a professional politician he was only saying that Trump didn't know how to couch his hate in code words like Pence, himself a professional politician, can do. Meaning people need to excuse Trump's inability to hide his ignorance and prejudice because he's not the practiced liar Pence is.
So there's Trump who spouts his racism freely, and Pence, who would rather use dog whistles.
Either way, hate and ignorance is the dual ticket of the GOP.
Business as usual for Republicans.

(10,274 posts)Trump is the Party's Id. Is anyone all that surprised that Pence would think exactly the same thing? I'm not.
They're both hate vultures, ones just a salesmen who hates the very customers he's using to enrich himself. If he were honest about it, I would say no harm no foul...but then The Base wouldn't vote for him would they?
Yes they would still vote for him, even then. Because that's how dumb these fucking people are. The takeaway from this century's elections this far will have to be how easy it is to brainwash otherwise smart people into clearly self destructive, non-rational decisions. The only bright light is that mostly, these are people who still think Joseph McCarthy was right, an they're all on their way to being dead.
I won't mourn their passing.
