in preparation for Matthew. Wow!
Jamaica is now on Tropical Storm Warning - not hurricane warning anymore. We're expecting torrential rain but are thrilled that we won't face the hurricane. Sadly Matthew has moved East and may give then the last thing they need - a direct hit on South-Western Haiti would be catastrophic.

Missing Jamaica is a good thing but hitting Haiti instead will be very, very bad.

(12,232 posts)Very dangerous Hurricane Matthew is maintaining Category 4 strength as it heads northwards at 6 mph, and is already dumping potentially catastrophic rains on Haiti and the Dominican Republic. An unusual area of extra spin and low pressure that has been embedded on the east side of Matthews circulation for days is generating intense rains in excess of one inch per hour, as seen on microwave imagery
