Not only a rising economy. But he also lost that much and he didn't even pay off the people who worked for him. Can you imagine how much he would have lost if he had paid contractors?

i have worked business to business sales my entire life

in any market, folks have made what should have been the right choices and lost their ass.

trumps problem is not that he lost money it is that he constantly lies about it

Casinos are cash machines - it's hard as all get out to lose money with a casino! And he went bankrupt with them really really fast.

It had to be a scam and a way to clear the monies owed for the building and/or construction of the casinos. Remember, Trump has said he has come out ahead in his bankruptcies.

(Can't look up sources right now but the info is out there.)
