A perfect storm...a resolute bully jerk adulterer like Gingrich and Faux News/Rush. It is when working together and compromise went out the window. It has since been oppose everything, obfuscate, etc. It has been even worse with Obama because he was even black...though half his family is white. They famously had a meeting where they agreed to oppose, oppose, then oppose more once the black guy took over.

There used to be reasonable republicans interested in governing, even some like Nelson Rockefeller who seemed more like a democrat. But the long game plan put into writing by Lewis Powell and the doing away with the Fairness Doctrine changed everything. You wound up with a TV network functioning much like Goebbels did for the Nazis. Fair and Balanced you know, wink wink.
