Egyptian lawmaker says women should prove they are virgins to go to college

JERUSALEM – He’s at it again.

Last month, Egyptian lawmaker Elhamy Agina declared that women should undergo female genital mutilation in order to “reduce their sexual desires” because Egyptian men are “sexually weak.”

Now, he wants all Egyptian women to undergo compulsory “virginity tests” prior to being admitted into the country’s universities. “Any girl who enters university, we have to check her medical examination to prove that she is a Miss,” Agina told Egypt’s Youm 7 newspapers, according to a translation in the Egyptian Streets news website. “Therefore, each girl must present an official document upon being admitted to university stating she’s a Miss.”

“No one should be upset by this decision,” he added.

Agina’s use of “Miss” was widely interpreted by Egyptians on social media as referring to a woman who is a virgin. And they took to Twitter and Facebook to ridicule Agina and call for punitive measures against him.

Patriarchs are hung up on a membrane that's often long gone by the time a woman gets through puberty, if it was ever there in the first place. Perfectly normal women who have avoided sex for one reason or another then get slut shamed because they don't bloody the sheets on the wedding night--unless they've had the foresight to plan a nice chicken dinner for the next day.

Tell you what, Agina, we'll determine your fitness to talk into a microphone with a prostate exam beforehand, every time you feel the urge to say something stupid about women. After all, we can't have you running away in mid sentence because a big, boggy prostate has finally let some urine into your bladder. After a few years of this, we'll revisit your demand to put young girls up in stirrups to have their insides examined before they can go to school. My guess is that you'll want the fickle finger to stop, so you'll drop it.

Shit, women here go to university when they are married and the last kid starts school. I don't know why these lunatics want to tie women's education to virginity policing. Education ends up in the brain, not the box.
