(44,173 posts)No matter how carefully I would try to wordsmith my Father's Day message, somebody would chime in, offended, lamenting that his or her father was a drunken, deadbeat, violent loser.
So I now keep my mouth shut on Father's Day.

(25,592 posts)Happy Father's Day!!! Sorry,
I couldn't find an actual Father's Day card that wasn't really lame and about golfing or fishing.
Way to not conform to father stereotypes![/center]

(83 posts)I woke this morning, there was an ad about Father's Day on the radio, as more of reflex I grabbed my phone to make the call to hear him say "hello sunshine," then remembered this would be me first Father's Day without him. I miss that old man , I miss my friend.

(6,372 posts)We lost him two years ago... at 89.
He was everything you would want a father to be. Loving, compassionate, available... Mom says he would to ANYthing around the house except diapers. LOL That was the one chore he couldn't handle. He got hooked up online before "online" meant anything and introduced his kids to the internet (via Compuserve at the time).
Thanks Dad.
You did good.

Sorry to be a downer but that is reality for many in America today.

(33,224 posts)Surely there are more than four of us who aren't abusive drunks and/or had abusive drunks for fathers who could also recommend this. Maybe we could get equal time on the greatest page.
It's only one day a year. Maybe we could give the usual rhetoric a one-day break and limit ourselves to the other 364 to explain how much fathers suck.
