(9,753 posts)We were asking, "How can Trump let such optics happen?"
Not only Hillary, but Bill-effing-Clinton gladhanding the audience like the confident winners they are . . . after the Stepford family had already slunk off in a pack.
Utterly delicious.

Hillary went immediately to the edge of the stage to greet or acknowledge or extend a hand to the small crowd that immediately started building in front of the stage where she was approaching. And there was Bill Clinton, bending way over to shake hands and connect with people a few steps away. And Chelsea, and her husband. Donald Trump huddled with his latest wife and kids and then the group of them exited stage left, looked like. What struck me about that was - surrounded by his extended family up onstage closer to the podiums rather than the edge where the throng of people gathered - I wondered if he did that because he only wanted to hear from people who would tell him how great he did. The Clinton contingent, on the other hand, made a bee-line straight for the audience. They weren't afraid to face the crowd, based on the job she just did.

(10,838 posts)That was a Master Class on how to undo an opponent. Not by getting down to his level but simple allowing his own words and the facts skin him alive.
To quote Michelle Obama: 'when they go low, we go high'.
She beat him like a dirty pile of rags. It was a beautiful thing to watch!

(1,306 posts)I turned on the TV at 9:00, saw the smugly puckered face and
the empty-suited swagger of cheeto-man, and I turned to another
channel. I could not stomach watching him, no matter how much
I was convinced he was probably going to make an ass of himself.
The next shoe is yet to drop: What will be the spin of today's
headlines on cable news, internet and print news? How will they
frame this story? Most people don't watch and let the news media
do their thinking for them. I hope they are honest and focus on
salient issues. Yes, I am a dreamer.
I do believe, no joking, that he uses cocaine. It explains the

(561 posts)But please Hillary, just once....when Trump starts speaking ill of China, ask him why all of his and his families products are made there, instead of the US. I'll bet he will be the one to faint.
You did a great job tonight, so proud of you, and so proud to vote for you!

(3,283 posts)She started out a little slow with a few pre-scripted zingers that didn't really land, then she found a few pressure points and started to needle him. Just a little bit of poking right where he lives. She called him racist twice in on answer, and actually used the word racist. Cast aspersions on his charitable donations and supposed wealth. Told him he was wrong when he was wrong.
He did just what I remember a few people were predicting, and couldn't resist rising to the bait. Unfortunately, he gets so angry that he loses his train of thought and spent a good 15 minutes punching himself in the face after Hillary set him up for it.
He absolutely can't resist. No matter how much grooming or debate prep he goes through, any time that Hillary pokes him where he lives, he's going to rise to that bait and inevitably trip over his own stupid feet.
Keep it up, Hillary. Present the plans with poise, know and present the facts. Boop Donny on his nose and pat his widdle haid, and watch him flail in incandescent rage.

(111 posts)She was amazing. Listening to the CNN commentary afterwards, there were some opinions that Trump was very good for the first 20 minutes, and also that the average person would only watch 20 minutes of the debate.
On that first point, I couldn't disagree more. I thought Trump was so scattered that it was almost comical. SNL won't need to create a parody. They can just show the actual clips.
On that second point, I don't know what average time is that someone watches the debate. But it really bothers me to think when I hear Trump supporters say things like, "well, I've never heard him say that." Such an important election deserves more than 20 minutes.
Back to the topic, Hillary was incredible!

(44,577 posts)I was nervous about Obama's first debate against R-Money, and rightfully so. But I wasn't worried about Joe Biden taking on Paul Ryan: I knew that HE knew what he'd have to do, and he did it so well that all Obama had to do was follow his lead.
The alleged dead heat polls notwithstanding, I've been worried that Hillary had started to relax too much in the home stretch. Maybe it's because I had to listen to the debate on radio, but I think she, too, knew what she had to do and did it -- came across equally effectively as both a mature, confidence-inspiring leader leader AND and a fed up, prissy schoolmarm who scolded Duh Donald just like the overgrown brat that he is!!!
rocktivity
P.S. Has she been getting vocal coaching? She was a lot easier to listen to than she has been, but maybe that, too, was the result of having had to listen on the radio.
Stinky The Clown
(67,817 posts). . . . . I agree. She is MUCH easier to listen to. My wife used to get upset with me when I commented on her voice and her seeming to yell, particularly at rallies, that came off as .. . . . well . . . . shrill. I never thought she was but could see how it could be seen that way. But now. WOW! Pitch perfect
