Louisiana Was Totally Cool With Paying For Kids To Go To Religious Schools Until Other Religions Show Up

by Wonkette Jr.

"Math class"We told you last week about Louisiana’s new plan for educating its youth, which is to stop having a plan for educating its youth and just dump everybody into classrooms owned by private companies that replace teachers with Moses Explains Algebra on VHS.

They’re set to steer tens of millions of dollars into the new privatization program, which pays for vouchers that parents can use to send their children to religious schools. Gov. Bobby Jindal said the state was “changing the way we deliver education,” which is a lot like Domino’s saying it’s changing the way it delivers pizza by locking up the store and telling everyone to buy a Hot Pocket from the Vatican. In any case, Louisiana Republicans loved the plan. Until a group of folks showed up to ruin the whole thing: Muslims.

Yes, apparently when you shove through legislation that allows religious organizations to receive state funding, Christians aren’t the only ones who want it — an Islamic school was one of 38 institutions approved for the voucher program, which is a huge problem for people who believe religion helps children so long as it is the religion of the swamp people they are representing.

I spent part of my tour before I went to Vietnam at "Fort Puke" near "Diseaseville" (Leesville). It was the most disgusting place I ever spent among those "marry your cousin and screw your daughter" white Christianazi racist bigoted white trash inbreeds in my life. I got tire of being called a damn Yankee for the whole three months that I was forced to be there.

Jindal is a POS like all the rest of the Republicans down there. We now know that "vouchers are for CHRISTIAN schools only. And that privatization is about turning our education system into some sort of hybrid indoctrinating our kids to be good corporate Christian soldiers who are CAPitALISTS thus fulfilling the "prosperity gospel". God wants Christians to be rich. Everyone else can go to H.

Ironically, by appealing to people's skepticism of any religion not based on Judaism or Christianity, and reminding them that yes, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans and Scientologists have just as much right as Southern Baptists and Catholics to sign up their schools for voucher money. That can quiet demands for vouchers from evangelicals right quick.

The Supreme Court's 2002 decision in Simmons v. Zelman-Harris made it clear that vouchers cannot discriminate on the basis of religion.

Looks like the state had already approved them, and the fight would have been in the state legislature next year as to whether or not to continue the funding. That could have ended the entire program.

the Civil War to happen is still present in many American's minds today. Will there be another Civil War? Not literally. But, the illogical and destructive desires of many regarding a National schism has most definitely already begun and it is wreaking havoc on the quality of life in the U.S.

the American Military could be matched by a rebel army, (2) the Geographical distribution of the rebels is no longer conveniently divided in two clearly defined parts. Those with separatists thoughts are scattered all over the Country. A unifying coordination would not be feasible, and (3), the surveillance capabilities of the Federal Gvt. would know every move everyone made. Those caught planning insurrection would be gathered up into prison camps for life.

They really don't need a literal or physical Civil War. They are close to overthrowing the existing Gvt. with no loss of life and an amazingly small amount of physical, monetary resources. They have mastered the art of getting themselves into powerful Governmental positions. They are taking over from inside our own legal/political system.

They own the Supreme Court, the Religionists, the racists, Cooperate leadership, education, the police, the House of Representatives, the uneducated, the bigoted, and a large portion of State and Local Governments. (If I've left out anything feel free to add to the list.)

No, but seriously - you're right. The RW corruption is eating this country from the inside out like tarantula wasp larvae. It's damn depressing, because the Dems do manage to motivate the Left to vote, every once in a while, but look who the leadership picks? The milquetoast. The turds float to the top, like Barrett in Wisc., or anyone, even Bill "Too Corrupt to be SoS" Richardson, in New Mexico. Spineless, quivering bowls of political jello with all the intellectual heat of a LED (very little, given the high lumen put out). Grr...

Don't get me started. Take the cops (Please!!): where do they find these idiot assholes? Somehow they manage to attract THE stoopidest, meanest bullies that ever haunted a H.S., give them a badge, a gun, and a EPCOT-sized ego, and say, "Go!" We need smart cops with moral character. Who the fuck are these asses? What person in their right mind would want to run for Sheriff, when you have to deal with THAT crew every day?!

But you're right. We need to take control of our local governments - what the RW has been doing for the last 30-odd years - and courts before anything meaningful can change. Until then - countdown to Armageddon.

because it doesn't refer to the Muslims, at the very least. It refers to the people who elect stupid, bigoted representatives who think that public money going to Christian schools is fine, but to Muslim schools isn't - and who thus have no understanding ot the First Amendment.

And the phrase was said by 'Wonkette Jr.', not the DUer.

It's just that the South is where it gets ugliest - and where such insane laws as the Louisiana one actually get PASSED instead of passed over. Yeah, the rest of the country has charter schools and increasingly vouchers are being pushed. But leave it to the South to take crazy and turn it into plain old fucked up.

Here's a thread with an OP that points to why when this shit happens in the South, everybody piles on:

I'm not being "defensive".
I AM confronting bigotry.
You can certainly find ignorance and bigotry in The South.
I can find them anywhere I choose to look, in every corner of our nation.
Bigotry steps in when people attempt to use these to condemn entire regions
and the people who live there.

The most open bigotry I have witnessed was in the Northern Mid-West (Montana, Wyoming, Idaho),
and that is matched in the White Flight suburbs of Minneapolis, Michele Bachmann's district.

Are you aware of what is happening in Wisconsin and Michigan?
Talk about passing "fucked up" laws.

Maybe it just feels good to point your finger elsewhere and ignore what is happening at home, but that attitude has never proved to be helpful.
Its sorta like removing the beam from your own eye....

If you are really concerned about the problems in The South,
move here and help change them.
Our Blue vote weighs much more here than it ever did in Big Blue.
