In an attempt to remind the world of the risks refugees take to reach safety, 2,500 lifejackets 625 of which were worn by children were placed on the doorstep of the UK government.
Dozens of volunteers gathered in Parliament Square at 5 a.m. on Sept. 19 to unload a lorry containing thousands of lifejackets to create the "graveyard".
The lifejackets, which were worn by refugees on the crossing from Turkey to the Greek island of Chios, represent the experiences and struggles of those who travelled the treacherous stretch of sea.

I don't think it is too much of a stretch to say that our policies in the Middle East have had a lot to do with the current refugee crisis.
As decent human beings and brothers and sisters of humanity, we should extend all the help we can to these people.
My combat and war experiences in Iraq have taught me that, when we get to the bottom of who we are, we all want the same basic things - a good future for our children, enough food to keep our bellies full, and safety. Nothing is an awful as trying to survive as a civilian in a war zone.

(2,955 posts)We have failing infrastructure.
We have children in our own country who go hungry.
We have college students who owe tens of thousands in student loan debt.
We have veterans who aren't getting the care they deserve.
We need to spend the money fixing our own issues before spending it helping citizens of other countries.

If we as a nation aren't prepared to deal with the consequences of our policies then we should remain isolationist until we are willing to deal with the fallout.
