He'll be able to be viewed as the ethical, conservative choice who stands by his convictions if he positions himself correctly here. It could garner him a decent following of traditional GOP voters.

It's not unlike what Cruz did, except with the religious RW and Tea Party members, in the years leading up to 2016. Which almost worked out for him.
