Pee-Repelling Paint In Transit System

Philadelphia Latest City To Try Using Pee-Repelling Paint In Transit System

A spokesman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority confirmed to news site BillyPenn that the agency has plans to test a brand of paint called Ultra-Ever Dry, the same liquid-repellant stuff officials used in San Francisco and the St. Pauli neighborhood of Hamburg, Germany. SEPTA says testing is slated to start in a few weeks.

“It’s imminent. It’s coming soon,” spokesman Andrew Busch said. As for where those trial spots will be, that’s “still being determined.”

Busch says waste complaints are among the most common the agency receives, and that SEPTA’s maintenance crews are always looking for new ways to right the mess.

“This is just one more thing that SEPTA will have to help keep the system clean,” he told NBC 10.

The paint’s “superhydrophobic” qualities cause liquid to splash back at its source, which could make for a very unpleasant experience if you’re relieving yourself against a wall or other surface.

Look at big cities - very few public restrooms. The city governments don't want to spend the money on a fucking bathroom. The New York Subway closed all their bathrooms over terror paranoia. The local businesses won't open their bathrooms to the public unless they're paying customers.

Result, no places to pee, and then everyone's bitching that people pee in alleys and elevators. Don't come bitching to me.

You want sanitation? BUILD IT!

Let the addicts use injection clinics, and they won't shoot up in bathrooms.

my pet peeve is the lack of bathrooms in the transit stations. i mean, come on. you have people there, you have surveillance, you have people on the trains for over an hour all.the.time.
and idiots on the local blogs love to post about the smell, or the occasional "accident".

one reason i cannot hate on mcdonalds. always clean bathrooms, open to the public.

Some of the ones in downtown Denver have locked bathrooms, and you have to buy something before one of the workers will push the button to let you in the bathroom.

In the long run if it deters jerks from urinating in public spaces, it means less money spent on disinfecting and cleaning. Not sure that angling would prevent splash back.

The head of Ferrari's racing organization spent six hours in jail for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground. I can't say I didn't smile at that.
