Dana Milbank spent a night in a TRUMP hotel and writes a detailed report :

Examining my posh surroundings — Italian bed linens, French table linens, Chinese duvet, Korean TV and, yes, Mexican tequila ($14 for a shot of Patrón Silver) in the minibar, er, “private bar,” I came across the Gideon Bible in the nightstand with a note on “TRUMP HOTELS ™” stationery:

“If you would like to continue your spiritual journey, we also offer the followings [sic]: Talmud. Quran. Gita. Avesta. Tripitaka (Pali Canon). Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Book of Mormon. Kindly contact Housekeeping should you wish to have one delivered to your room.”

Sure enough, minutes after my call to housekeeping, a pleasant woman arrived with a copy of “The Glorious Qur’an” in Arabic and English, along with a brown prayer rug and a compass pointing in the “direction of al Kaaba” in Mecca….

He campaigns on an “America First” theme — yet about the only American-made thing I could find in my hotel room was the small package of milk-chocolate Trump gold bullion ($25)….

In my room, I found a Trump logo bathmat and towels from India, bone china from Japan, Italian cutlery and tiles, two telephones from Malaysia, a Swiss refrigerator, German coffee cups, Trump soaps and lotions from Canada and, from China, all four lamps, the coffee machine, the bathroom scale, the valet stand and the shower cap. The hotel’s managing director is from France. Most hotel workers I met during my stay had Caribbean or African accents.

Oh...true story....
I was talking to a RN at the hospital the other day, and in jest I used the word "Mooslum"
She immediately said " The pastor said that exact word this Sunday"

then explained she had gone to a Baptist church here in town instead of her usual Methodist church.

Just as when he talked about bribing politicians. He also says he'll change the system. As in, make it so politicians can't be bribed anymore. Of course he won't actually do that. But there's no actual inconsistency in THIS part of his argument and actions. He's claiming he'll make changes that will make it so Trump Hotels will want to buy American for profit reasons.

he is sane and nominally functional at a presidential level? If he can't or won't produce his tax returns, perhaps it is because he isn't himself an American. Maybe he is registered as a foreign national so that he can further evade/avoid taxes. Is there any proof that tRump is an American citizen? Just asking, seeing as how it seems to be an issue with him for others. Because ya know the things that people complain about the most are often the very things they are guilty of, it's called projection and it seems to be welded to the republican DNA. Maybe tRump too was made in China.

leader. Very different when you think about it. I really don't see this as hypocrisy at all, and certainly his followers -- who admire him for supposedly being a billionaire -- won't be put off. They're activated by resentment of change they don't like and by social issues, by an "establishment" they feel disses them, very notably not by inequality.

And just look at the sort of gestures he's tossed at his followers.

A childcare deduction/tax dodge that most poor parents wouldn't qualify for but people making $499,999 a year would. Massive tax breaks for the extremely wealthy.

The only offering he actually seems to have any interest in would be The Trump Wall. It'll never be built, of course, but he clearly imagines it as a yoooge, elaborate monument to himself, its couple thousand miles complete with towers, lights, elaborate high-tech systems all along that would make China's look like an old bunch of rocks.

Weird populism, but it's worked very well for him.

deflect restive populations onto target groups in lieu of actually improving their conditions.

Look how right-wing leaders encouraged conservatives to believe all the things they were unhappy about were caused by Democrats while they continued on with their agenda. We're too numerous to make a suitable victim group, but new and undocumented immigrants are not.

Good grief. No wonder I despise "populists" and their barn-burning resentments. Dumb and easily vicious.

An "independent contractor" becomes an employee as soon as the employer tells them what hours they must work and what time they must be at work. Requiring them to wear a company uniform or follow a dress code is another log on the fire.

20. Yaas, the name of the game is *diversification* (not diversity) - reaping cash from ALL niches
Sun Sep 18, 2016, 11:30 AM
Sep 2016

In my neck of the woods 3 or 4 of the radio stations are all owned by one family conglomerate that owns about 15-20 over a region of states. All different niches - Country, easy listening, rock, sports - that is, each station specialized to a separate niche audience. With the biggest bummer being their ONE talk station that is all wingnut, the whole schmear of LIMBOsevic, BecKKK, LOESCH, the whole Deplorables.

When they first took over the wingnut station a few years ago I was still naive enough to think that my couple of letters to the owners would enlighten them about how deplorable the wingnuts were and that the reborn owners would ditch the wingnut format and institute a talk line-up of normality. HAH!1

Then I realized what their game is: To make the most money as possible, with the way to do it is to cover as many niches as possible and gather whatever pennies from each of them, with some niches losing money and others over-performing, with the overall bottom line being plus-cash.

So this is DRUMPF's game, with the double bottom lines of Brand *and* cash.

32. The meeting room names take the cake...

Meeting room names are: Eisenhower, Bush, Roosevelt, Reagan, Wilson, Adams, Kennedy and Jefferson...and, among them, the “DJT Boardroom."

Doesn't matter if he gets the presidency or not, it seems, he's already decided he's a president!

I would sleep on the streets before taking a room there! His name is EVERYWHERE (on the soaps, on the bottles of wine...). Oh and the max price for that room is $5,600 a night--granted, it's not usually that (the reporter got it for $850 thanks to a AAA discount) but to my mind, even if there was a huge convention in town and rooms were scarce, it would still be outrageous price gouging to charge $5k a night for that room!

Honestly, I knew the Repukes were sinking American politics into a deep hole back when Reagan was elected, but I also, honestly, thought that Bush was it. The conclusion to all they'd done to mess up our country. I still, honestly, cannot believe that this man, this outrageous cartoon even got into the primaries, let alone onto the ballot.

Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Adams, Kennedy, Jefferson (never mind the others), are beyond rolling over in their graves. They're asking "Why did I bother?" and doing this:

37. Yeah, supposedly the chocolate isn't all that amazing, either...
Sun Sep 18, 2016, 11:33 PM

"...according to Peter Greweling, a professor of baking and pastry arts at the Culinary Institute of America and author of "Chocolates and Confections: Formula, Theory, and Technique for the Artisan Confectioner." "I have to say it's kind of beautiful packaging, but it's so in your face," he said.

Of the three flavors, he described the milk chocolate as the best, "with a good caramel note and a very nice smooth melt." But he described the taste of the dark chocolate as "one-dimensional" and said the deluxe nut "doesn't have a roasted nut flavor to it at all."

Greweling also noted that at $4 for a 1.4 oz. bar, Trump chocolate is more expensive than Valrhona, "the Mercedes of chocolate," which retails for $12 a pound. "People love chocolate," he said. "But you have to appreciate the difference between really good work and something that's more pedestrian."

He described Trump chocolate as a product "where packaging and image is much more important than a quality artisan-type product."
