recreates the western front of WWI with piles of mattresses formed into trenches and has people dressed as dough boys "going over the top" only to be mowed down by a nerf machine gun and pretend to die at the bottom of the trench...

I will certainly be outraged and write a Letter to the Editor of the local newspaper and suggest a boycott of such a tasteless commercial.

"Mattress so worn that you and your partner find yourself dug into trenches on your sides of the bed? Come down to our Memorial Day Sale for a new 'Memorial Foam' mattress and the two of you can occupy No-Man's-Land together! With prices this low you'll be SHELL-SHOCKED!"

Where we see Lincoln bleeding out on a truly awesome mattress... "SPEND every moment on your new mattress like it was your LAST moment on earth!"

"I cannot tell a lie... these mattress prices are CHOPPED DOWN like a cherry tree!"

So many of them have a hodgepodge of crap and I can see people saying "Yeah, let's buy Mom a new mop! That'll make her day!"

But yeah, using every holiday to boost retail sales has gotten way out of hand. Some holidays are not meant to be celebratory.

That's not exactly a fresh wound. Life goes on. People go shopping on three day weekends.
