Seattle's Garfield HS football team kneels during national anthem

"The entire Garfield High School football team and their coaching staff, along with several West Seattle High School players took a knee while the Star Spangled Banner played at the Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle Friday night.

......

While some people in the stands disagreed with the protest, some parents said they were glad to see the team demanding change.

"I would've done the same thing," said Jermaine Smith. "It's tough out here for young black men and everyone's starting to take notice."

"I don't think that was very patriotic," said Tamiko Glover. "My son's in the Navy so I have to represent"

rather than listening to what this is about. So rather than ask people what they think about the protest, reporters should ask what people think it is about. Time to open the dialogue beyond silly blind patriotism.

It does not stand for a single thought or belief. It is unique to all of us. In all of us it causes a different emotion. Regardless, no one should be upset in how someone else reacts to it.
