(36,266 posts)These are, or at least used to be, a common sight in tourist shops, gas stations, etc. Sometimes a burned-out plantation is added to the background for the rebel soldier, presumably to evoke sympathy, rather than as a reminder that one side was fighting to preserve the institution of slavery.
I was a little disturbed to learn that the following Google search
https://www.google.com/search?q=union+soldier+forget+it+confederate+soldier+forget+hell&client=ubuntu&hs=5qd&channel=fs&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjAkJ6u0ZbPAhXq6YMKHQ02BjEQsAQIHQ&biw=1101&bih=758
returned images of mostly the rebel soldier, alone. When I saw the original for the first time, I thought the rebel soldier was intended to look rather foolish. Now the diehard lost-causers have adopted him as a symbol of resistance, to wit:

which completely perverts the humor of the original. A very, very fitting basis for a tRump parody.

(1,074 posts)With this whole birther thing Trump started, besides asking Obama for his birth certificate, there was another thing Trump wanted to see...Obama's transcripts...do you remember that? Well, now that Trump is running for President, I want someone to ask for his transcripts! I would love to see his grades from high school....how did he get into UPENN...with his father's influence and/or money or Donald Trump's own merit?? And, while we're at it, let's see his transcript from UPENN!!
I remember that clearly, the implication that Obama was an affirmative action student, not worthy of being president.
I would love to see Trump's transcripts. Evidently Trump never got the significance of "I am rubber, you are glue" taunt when he was a kid. It does go both ways!
