Shirley Chisholm and John McCain - The Straight Talkers8:00 PM on MPT 22, 1 hr 2016 TV-PG

Memorable presidential bids are recalled in this series, beginning with two "straight talkers" who sought the White House: Rep. Shirley Chisholm (D-N.Y.) in 1972 and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2000 and 2008. Chisholm, the first major-party black candidate and first woman to seek the high office, billed herself as "unbossed and unbought"; and McCain became known as a "maverick" during the 2000 race. Included: an off-camera showdown between McCain and George W. Bush prior to a TV debate.

I remember her running. My mother was a huge fan, so was I. And this was the first presidential election that I could legally vote.

However, every time she was on the TV, we were riveted!

A most wonderful person.

Shirley!

Thinking now she really was the forerunner of today, and we owe her SO much!
