OK, you don't "get paid" for helping people out in an emergency.

My friend who has the necessary heavy equipment, cut up and hauled out 19 LARGE oak trees blown over in our yard by a hurricane a few years ago.

He's a guy who regularly gets FEMA contracts to do that when debris cleanup is needed. He's made a lot of money in that business.
More power to him.
Somebody has to do it, and he has the equipment and knowledge to do it right.

BY FEMA and local government regs, contractors can only collect debris that's been hauled to the street.
By contract, FEMA contractors are only paid to pick up from the street.
Contractors are not allowed to come onto 'private property'.

My buddy said 'Screw that.'
In our neighborhood he sent crews back into yards to pick up debris wherever it was.
No charge.

The orange guy helped people out?
Yeah, right.
