While Hillary said horrible things about my supporters, and while many of her supporters will never vote for me, I still respect them all!

Maybe it's time to give Clinton just a little bit of credit for calling this bullshit out.
The rest of the Democratic Party has been crawling on their bellies for these people for years.

(4,423 posts)chamber, but seriously in the real world, undecided's (which there are a high amount this cycle) don't like this sort of generalized attack about such a large number of Americans. Granted she did qualify that she regretted saying half, but would have been better if had just put the label on the candidate not the supporters.

(2,720 posts)I subscribe to Josh Micah Marshall's view that this is "dominance politics". Trump won the GOP nod because he was the biggest bully.
The way you defeat a bully is to punch him in the nose.

(1,249 posts)She aimed that at Trump supporters, not the American people. And if anything, she's under, not over the true mark.
For who can deny these supporters are supporting bigotry, xenophobia, willful ignorance, threats of violence?
Trump is all these things and they support him.
humbled_opinion
(4,423 posts)versus targeting specific supporters. So let me show you two military members, which half are racists? Let me show you two minorities that support Trump, which ones are deplorable? You can't even see how ignorant it is to say Trumps supporters are not Americans.
This is the kind of crap that the rightwing do, why is it being done here?

(18,964 posts)I'm afraid that the Breitbart scandal factory will use this statement to energize their base
AND...
Use it as a rallying cry to drive more people to the polls under the "I hate Hillary " banner.
Not sure yet how to counter this although tRump and his people have been pretty successful at "doubling down" on any particular lie, gaff, misquote, misrepresentation etc...maybe that's the technique to use here.

(58,689 posts)it's not enough to get him elected, at least not legitimately. And I dont think many folks will stay home this cycle. Our base is energized, too. I don't think Independents will flock to this asshole.
Typically, "driving more people to the polls" favors Democrats.

(18,964 posts)I live in Central Wisconsin where I've watched Dems and progressives "sit out" two, maybe three elections and let Scott Walker and his right wing Supreme Court nominees win.
Trumps strategy (if there really is such a thing) appears to be to drive Hillary's "negatives" through the roof to discourage Dems who weakly support Hillary from turning out on election day. He's hired the idiots at Breitbart to keep the "Clinton Scandal Machine" going at full speed for just that purpose.
Driving Trump's negatives up is okay...and, in fact a damned good strategy...firing up his base isn't.
btw...Like your screen name, that's what my wife calls me when I get pissed off!!

(7,004 posts)Everything Trump says and the way his supporters cheer him on has scared the voters. They can't double down on anything. They are vile. Nobody with any survival instinct is going to sit this one out.
Anyone who is so feeble minded that they can't see Trump and his basket cases for what they are needs to have it spelled out. If that fails, they are unreachable.
What Hillary said needed to be said. We can intuit from our nausea at the way the prostituted press bolsters Trump's lunatic world that the voting public is also beyond sick of his shit.
Braindead prostituted media, you are all guilty and we won't forget you ever. You will not be able to talk yourselves out of this. During the last few elections, more and more have deserted your twisted musings. We can all write dissertations on you. You will all go down in history but not the way you wanted. Kapish?

(32,640 posts)And every time she's asked about the statement, she gets to get in yet another opportunity to point out the racist groups that are endorsing him.
I think that the more she reminds people that he is the favorite candidate of racists, she gives the GOP voters who cringe at his racism another reason to jump ship.

(43,252 posts)Hockey coach Herb Brooks once said, paraphrasing, 'if you don't
dictate to them, they will dictate to you.'
Why has this been so hard for our party to grasp? Walter Mondale
had one moment of calling them out, Bill Clinton stayed above the
fray and compromised with them, John Kerry intellectualized them
to death but no one listened, Obama controlled the news cycle but
then appeased the same financial backers.
If you're going to win the war, you're going to have to offend somebody.
