Go Buckeyes!

(6,280 posts)We're probably going to need it but I have faith in Coach B to make the proper adjustments. It's not like he's never made a good decision before.

Good luck to you too Buckeye!

(14,856 posts)They're underdogs at TCU, but I bet it'll be close after seeing part of TCU's first game.
Ohio State has the least experienced team out of the 128 FBS teams this season (according to Phil Steele), so I'm guessing they'll screw up later this season despite their good recruiting. Maybe at Oklahoma on Sept. 17th?

(6,280 posts).... 77 points and I don't care if it was against Bowling Green, it's pretty darn good for an opener. Throw in your excellent coach, and okie's game against Houston and I think you guys win that one. I think Ohio State's real test may come from Michigan this year or perhaps Michigan State, but they should be in pretty good shape by the time that comes around.

(14,856 posts)OSU has struggled over the years playing at Wisconsin and Penn State too, both of which are very hostile environments for them. They'll play both teams on the road this season.
I'm still disappointed by last season's loss to Michigan State. They seemed hesitant to pass in the cold and wet conditions, but they needed to do it because MSU devoted their defense to stopping the run. Then when they ran, it was often not by their best player (Elliott).
Their offense has looked much improved after they put their OL coach up in the box (immediately after the MSU loss) to call plays along with Beck, who replaced Tom Herman (now the head coach at Houston) as the offensive play-caller early last season. Nebraska fans weren't pleased with Beck when he coached there.
I think TCU will sorely miss Doctson at WR, much more than the loss of Boykin at QB. I'll be cheering for Arkansas in that game, admittedly because I tend to root for the underdog unless the favored team is the Buckeyes.
Oklahoma has two very good RB's, and I didn't think they used them enough against Houston. It looks like DT might be OSU's "weak spot" this season, so the Sooners might do well running the ball up the middle. I was surprised that their OL didn't look very strong (muscular) against Houston, so maybe that won't work for them. It's hard to tell this early in the season.
Sheesh, Alabama looks amazing on their defensive line! I'll surely cheer for Arkansas in that game too, but that game certainly won't be easy!

(6,280 posts)As long as it's not against the SEC, yeah, even Alabama, I'll root for Ohio State. Well, unless this scenario comes around again. 2011 Sugar Bowl. We owe you one.

(14,856 posts)What a game!
I liked what I saw from the Arkansas QB. I still think beating Alabama will be a very tall order for the Razorbacks in the future, but we'll see!
That game against Arkansas was OSU's first bowl win against an SEC team, and that got stripped away because of the players trading their game memorabilia for tattoos (and Tressel covering it up). I was pleased when they beat Alabama in the 2015 Sugar Bowl and officially got that monkey off their back! OSU was an underdog in most (but not all) of those past bowl games against SEC teams, but it was still ridiculous how long they were win-less.
Ohio State looked anemic against Tulsa for awhile, reminding me of their pathetic game against Michigan State last season. If they start like that against Oklahoma, they'll likely lose. I wish Meyer would play Nick Bosa (Joey's younger brother) at DT to strengthen the middle of the defensive line in that game! Maybe the Buckeyes will get lucky and Coach Stoops won't run the ball up the middle? Lol.
Good luck to you guys the rest of the way!

(6,280 posts).... thankfully I had my defibrillator handy. Only had to use it 2 or 3 times. Some reason I think Michigan might be Ohio State's biggest challenge. But, if I were a betting man I'd have to go with the Buckeyes to run the conference. Good luck with your team the rest of the way..... Unless by some chance we meet again.

(17,314 posts)It was a close and entertaining game.
Some of the commentators/analysts were talking up Trevor Siemian after the game. He didn't look bad tonight, but it's going to be a long season with some struggles for the rookie QB, no doubt. Fortunately for the Broncos, they've got fantastic D!

(65,136 posts)I've got no dog in the hunt, because i'm a Bears fan (yeah, i know) but i saw at least 5 helmet to helmet hits on Newton and only one flag.
Because he's built like a linebacker he doesn't get QB protection?

(17,314 posts)A smaller QB would probably have received fairer treatment from the ref.
Full disclosure: I'm rooting for the Cardinals but I have Newton on one of my two fantasy football teams, so I'm hoping to see him excel!

(11,443 posts)They obviously have a totally different set of rules for Cam and their anointed/protected golden boys like Manning and Brady. If those dirty Denver hits were against the golden boys, flags would be flying everywhere on the field and the media would be calling for suspensions. It was obvious Denver was coached to try and knock out Cam Newton with a concussion or neck injury.
Here are the 4 shots.....
