Montana: Democrats dominating 2016 campaign spending in Montana

The Montana Republic Party’s fundraising this election year has failed to keep pace with Democratic rivals with little hope of catching up.

The Montana Democratic Party received $359,000 in donations last month, according to a campaign finance report published Thursday. That’s more than the Montana Republican Party has received in the last year and a half.

The state GOP’s latest report shows receipts of $55,910 in August, which brings its total 2016 election haul to $344,460. That is less than 20 percent of the Montana Democrats’ $1.77 million in contributions during the 2016 cycle.

“Small businesses no longer feel the regime in the Montana Republican headquarters represents them,” state Rep. Rob Cook, R-Conrad, said Thursday.
