Former New York mayor David Dinkins accused of hit-and-run

Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins denied on Saturday an accusation that he plowed into a bicycle deliveryman while driving on a Manhattan street and then fled.

Deliveryman Rodrigo Garcia alleged that a car driven by the 89-year-old former politician struck him on June 30 as Garcia was stopped to make a turn on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Dinkins, who was mayor from 1990 to 1993, drove off and did not return to the accident site, according to the lawsuit filed on Friday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The suit said Garcia was seriously injured but did not give details. The New York Post newspaper said his ankle was broken.

5. She might be the exceptional alert, strong, octogenarian with quick reflexes.

I wish her many more years of safe driving.

But I also wonder if there should be a special test and perhaps limited license for persons over 75, or if they have certain diagnoses. Maybe no night driving. Maybe a simulator or virtual reality exam to check reflexes. I dunno, maybe nothing. I haven't heard that the elderly have a lot more accidents. I wonder what the statistics are?

6. They should be tested very regularly and strictly, but no reason for an arbitrary age cut off.

9. Agree. I'm 75 and I'd be willing to be tested anually.

I know my reflexes aren't what they used to be, but I think I make up for that in experience.
I just always look ahead and don't get myself into situations that require lightning fast reflexes.

10. I have family members in their nineties who still drive--accident free, too.

One has stopped driving at night, but they don't have any issues.

Not all older people are frail and losing their senses. Plenty are still sharp, with good vision, hearing and reflexes.

It should be an individual decision.
