Colin Kaepernick’s Jersey Sales Have Skyrocketed Since He Began His Protest

?quality=90&w=956&h=530

http://uproxx.com/sports/colin-kaepernick-jersey-sales-since-protest/

Some fans have set fire to Colin Kaepernick’s 49ers jersey, while others have only attempted to set fire to it. These protests of a protest doesn’t seem to be doing much good since, for every burnt jersey, there are plenty more being purchased.

Before Kaep began his protest against police brutality and racial inequality by sitting (and later kneeling out of respect for the military) during the national anthem, he had the 20th-best selling jersey on the 49ers team site. Considering the site still sells Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott jerseys, this isn’t completely unimpressive, but it still puts his lack of popularity as a player in the bay area into perspective.

However, his protest has turned heads, and it seems like a silent majority are agreeing with Kaepernick’s stance, and are helping make his promised upcoming million-dollar donation to various charities a little easier on his wallet. His jersey is now third in the 49ers store.

Update: Kaepernick now the top-selling jersey on 49ers site, was 20th a couple weeks ago http://www.shop49ers.com/San_Francisco_49ers_Jerseys/pg/1/ps/60/so/top_sellers

First of all I’d like to thank Colin Kaepernick for what’s he’s done for football. Previous to his National Anthem protest, there wasn’t one legitimate reason to watch an NFL exhibition game. If you did watch, it’s because you’re either a hopeless, degenerate gambler who long ago lost his family, home and car due to your addiction; or you’re the mother of one of the players watching only to see if your son gets hurt.

Then along comes Kaepernick, and even I find myself watching. And writing about it. Now I’d be willing to bet that every franchise is going to have a designated sitter next preseason, just to get people to tune in.

On Thursday Seahawks’ corner Jeremy Lane joined in, although I don’t pretend to know his reasons.

but what I've been hearing on the news is that the owners will have to do it carefully because 62% of players are AA's and more people are paying attention to what's happening with Colin and the 49ers. If he has more Black players joining him sitting out on the national anthem, it could get ugly and no one want to go to a game where players aren't...playing. Now, that's what I've heard, but what do I know...nothing. Just that owners don't want to lose money.

They desperately want to avoid him getting injured to avoid having to pay his higher injury guarantee.

I suspect that Kaepernick will play as little as possible, and they may even put Ponder in if Gabbert goes down.

Kaepernick isn't playing the way he used to, and due to surgery, he's lost a fair amount of weight which has negatively affected his play. He also complained of "dead arm" earlier this year, which is a giant red flag.

If the 49ers put Kaepernick in the game, and he gets injured, they're on the hook for his full 2017 salary. Unless something unforeseen happens, i think his chances of playing much are slim, and his chances of playing next year for the 49ers are almost nil.

Not everyone is buying them out of admiration or show of support for the guy.

There are dozens of videos where they're being set on fire...
