Sacramento-area faith-based hospital denies transgender man hysterectomy

http://www.kcra.com/news/local-news/news-sacramento/man-claims-carmichael-hospital-canceled-surgery-because-he-is-transgender/41428916

A transgender man who was scheduled to undergo a hysterectomy said the hospital canceled his surgery a day before it was scheduled.

Evan Michael Minton claims Mercy San Juan in Carmichael refused to treat him because he is transgender....

Then on Monday, his doctor, Lindsey Dawson, found out the hospital would not allow her to do Minton's surgery. Dawson explained she was scheduled to do two hysterectomies Tuesday, but only Minton’s was canceled.

“They were unable to do his surgery as it went against the Catholic directives of the hospital,” Dawson said.

Emergent: must be done ASAP to save a life/limb
Elective is pretty much anything else, even if medically indicated. My shoulder surgeries, for example, were elective - my muscles and tendons were torn and detached from the bone, and I had oestocysts tearing into tissue so it was medically indicated - but since it wasn't life-saving, it was elective. Since it was necessary, it wasn't comestic.

The surgery I had on my hand was plastic, because it was reattaching the thumb (repairing damage), as opposed to cosmetic, which is for improving appearance only.

8. It would be if it wasn't being done for an emergent medical reason.

If he just wanted to be rid of the uterus, yeah, that's totally elective.

Doesn't California protect transgender people from discrimination? (Answer: Yes it does) He should sue that hospital for all they are worth, and no, being a "religious hospital" shouldn't be a thing, at all.

5. Hospital services should be determined by Federal oversight, only.

That alone would reduce healthcare cost dramatically, but that's another subject.

If any religious entities are not comfortable providing a routine medical service, they need to GTFO of the medical business altogether. End of story.

But in the interest of good taste, I shall refrain from doing so.
