There were also lines about Coulter's political views. "Ann Coulter has written 11 books, 12 if you count Mein Kampf," said comedian Nikki Glaser. "Ann, you're awful. The only person you will ever make happy is the Mexican who digs your grave."

"She seems stiff and conservative, but Ann gets wild in the sheets. Just ask the Klan," said Roast Master David Spade. "It looks like she’s having a good time. I haven’t seen her laugh this hard since Trayvon Martin got shot."

Wow! That's rough! Or in Coulter's case, ruff!

You can't help but wonder when people are subjected to roasts like that if they don't go home half laughing and half crying. Yeah, it's supposedly meant in jest, but there's more than a hint of truth to a lot of it.

Everyone is fair game in there. Even Bea Arthur (rest her soul), who was not the roastee, did a spit take when the quip was made 'I wouldn't fuck ___ with Bea Arthur's dick."

Coulter had the jokes and ad-libbed. She's not completely stupid:

"I'd like to welcome everyone to the Ann Coulter roast with Rob Lowe," Coulter said, acknowledging her special attention.

And self-deprication is always funny:

"I’m only here for all the love and respect I have for Rob Lowe and all of the talented performers tonight," she said sarcastically. "It has nothing to do with the book I published four days ago."

It's known that non-comedian roasters have writers to consult with, so she may have been fed that line.

But what was she expecting? Did she think she was a lovable harridan like Joan Rivers or Phyllis Diller or Rosanne Barr who people make fun of but still have warm fuzzies for?

No, she is just a loudmouth political activist. She's tough and brave enough to think she should go in there, but she's *not* a comedian, she's a staunch and battle-scarred political hatchet-carrier, and therefore should have had the hit-points to brave it out.

The story just says Coulter was the possibly unwitting backup target for lots of the flames. It doesn't say she complained that much or was hurt too badly, and she's a big girl. She should be used to this by now. This may not have wounded her at all and got her some visibility for her book. I bet someone as a joke said "let's get Anne Coulter in there" and they honestly didn't think she'd do it.

people on DU consider her 'somebody'.

I will never get that. But with your assistance in helping drive interest in her and her screeching, she's thanking DU and laughing all the way to the bank at such suicidal stupidity.

She's a horrid, odious, stunningly smug character who revels in getting away with things few people can. I don't know if there's a person under there but I think the character is loving the attention. She and Trump were MADE for each other.
