Not The Onion!

The post was made on LinkedIn by Bruce Hurwitz, who said that women should avoid wearing engagement rings to interviews because it "sends the message that she's high maintenance," according to Mashable.
"When a man sees that ring he immediately assumes you are high maintenance," he wrote in the post. "When the woman at the office who has the largest diamond on her finger, sees that ring, she will realize that if you are hired she will fall to second place and will, therefore, not like you. Lose the ring!"
Many LinkedIn users took offense to Hurwitz's advice with one user calling it "misguided, petty, and misogynistic" and another saying it is "ridiculous and it makes women sound petty and small," according to Mashable.

(45,806 posts)The days of losing out on a job because you're married and might get pregnant, or not admitting to having children because you might miss work to take care of them are OVER, or should be.

(21,506 posts)He wasn't talking about all engagement rings. He was talking about one specific womans.
A colleague interviewed a woman. I was not present during the interview. When they left the conference room the woman asked my colleague, "You know, I have had a number of interviews and no offers. Did you find anything wrong with my interviewing skills?" My colleague assured her that she had not. Even though I had not been introduced to her, and despite the fact that, at that moment, I was alone with five women all of whom were wearing engagement rings, I said, "Lose the rock!"Everyone looked at me. The woman had the Hope Diamond on her finger. She, and my colleagues, asked for an explanation."When a man sees that ring he immediately assumes you are high maintenance. When the woman at the office who has the largest diamond on her finger, sees that ring, she will realize that if you are hired she will fall to second place and will, therefore, not like you. Lose the ring!"

Stupid thing to post to be sure but I don't think he is wrong if it is a ridiculously huge ring and depending on the job you are applying for I can see that hindering being hired. I am not saying that it should be but the mind is a funny thing. Many seemingly small things can affect a job interview.
