ECU lineman Darius Commissiong dismissed after being charged with animal cruelty

East Carolina University defensive lineman Darius Commissiong has been dismissed from the team after he was charged Friday with animal cruelty by Greenville (N.C.) police.

Commissiong, 21, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of felony animal cruelty, according to a report from WCTI.

Police said they reported to a residence where a possible disturbance had been reported. Officers eventually made contact with the apartment resident, who agreed to meet the officers at the apartment. Once inside, police discovered the resident's dog, a 1-year-old Shih Tzu, had died.

Animal protective services officers responded to the scene and performed a necropsy on the dog. Results revealed:

— Multiple hemorrhages of the skin and body
— Three cracked ribs, which resulted in hemorrhaging of the lungs, one of which had collapsed
— Hemorrhaging in the abdomen, left eye and brain
— Liver had been torn into pieces as a result of trauma
— Several fractured teeth
— Chronic complete fracture of the femur in the left rear leg
