The fact that American athletes dominated at the 2016 Rio Olympics proves the United States does not have an issue with how it treats minority populations, said Fox News host Bill OReilly. On Monday afternoon, the 66-year-old gasbag tweeted this head-scratcher of a take: US dominates Olympics - how can this be if we are a terrible country that persecutes minorities? Press is deceiving world about the US. While OReilly never explicitly mentioned minority U.S. medal winnerssuch as Simone Biles, Simone Manuel, and Gabby Douglashis point was seemingly implied: How could a country that persecutes minoritiesvia highly publicized incidents of police abuse and racial injusticehave so many of them winning big on the global stage? The Soviet Union and East Germany dominated at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, making us wonder whether OReilly believes that fact absolved the two countries of their respective (and numerous) domestic issues.

I guess the fact that Jesse Owens won four gold medals in 1936 proves that America was totally bereft of racism at that time too.

At the end there is a scoreboard that tells you who did what. The best that day wins.

Like O'Reilly would get what you're talking about! Your comment is WAY too complicated for that fool.

Silly me, I thought that racism was persistent and pervasive at almost every level of society.
Shows what I know.

medals than any Olympics since 1984 when everyone boycotted?
I'm sure Billo will get right on explaining that.

(1,727 posts)7. Yeah, Trump said almost nothing about the Olympics while they were in progress because it didn't
fit his narrative about America being kicked around by the rest of the world.
