"sorry, it's my fault"-- text from becker ("david the rapist") to one of his victims

. . . .

According to the application for a criminal complaint, filed by East Longmeadow Police Officer Michael Ingalls (the school resource officer), he began investigating after receiving a tip from a student at the school that two young women were assaulted by Becker while they had been drunk. Ingalls questioned both victims, both of whom are 18 years old.

The first victim told police that she had consumed mixed drinks and shots of vodka before the older sister of the party’s hostess came home and broke up the party. She ended up going to an upstairs bedroom, where she fell asleep on a bed with the second victim. She said that she woke up to discover her pants were pulled down, and that David Becker had his finger in her vagina, something she did not consent to.

She then went downstairs to go sleep on a couch. The victim says she immediately received a text message from Becker saying “Sorry, it’s my fault.” About two and a half hours later, she received a second message from Becker stating: “Very sorry about last night I was very much in the wrong and was an embarrassment… I understand if I’m not your favorite person right now. Just wanted you to know that I really am sorry.” She told police that she didn’t know what to say, so she replied: “don’t even worry about it it’s all good.”

According to Ingalls’ report, the victim said there had been rumors about Becker prior to the incident. “During our conversation, Victim 1 stated that she had heard in the past Mr. Becker had done this to other girls and that his friends sometimes refer to him as ‘David the Rapist.’”

The second victim, meanwhile, told police that she woke up in the middle of the night to the feeling of someone touching one of her breasts, and after pushing the hand away, she felt a hand reach for her buttocks under her underwear. She again pushed the hand away. Later, she says that she woke up to someone having inserted a finger into her vagina. Again, she said that she pushed the hand away and fell back asleep. She woke a third time to David Becker leaving the room and saying goodbye to her.

I really don't understand what makes a guy (or theoretically a woman), think that somebody passed out drunk is sexy and/or asking for it, or that it's not wrong to touch them sexually without their consent.

A subset of serial killers ("product" killers who kill to obtain bodies or parts, as opposed to "process" killers who find the act itself enjoyable) are into this and a lot of them start out drugging and raping their victims before they decide that merely unconscious victims aren't enough and start to kill. For example Dahmer had enough of a reputation for drugging and raping his victims that the local bathhouse had banned him (after at least six incidents??!?!?!) for it.

I mean, if you pass out in proximity to The Rapist, you're clearly asking for it.

I can't bear to read the court transcripts, but if I had to guess, I'd say that Becker's attorney referred to the victims as "women" while describing the same-aged Becker as "a kid."

The female rape victim will be blamed for getting drunk, while her rapist will be exonerated for getting drunk out of the exact same bottle.
