Under Armour drops sponsorship of wife of hunter who speared bear
By Robert MacMillan | TORONTO
Under Armour Inc, the athletic clothing company, has ended its sponsorship of the wife and hunting companion of a U.S. hunter who sparked outrage over a video showing him killing a bear with a spear in the woods of Alberta in western Canada.
The video, which shows Josh Bowmar impaling the animal with a spear with a camera attached to it, prompted the Alberta government to say it will outlaw spear hunting as of this fall. Officials are also considering filing charges against Bowmar.
A spokeswoman for Under Armour, the No. 2 U.S. sportswear maker, said while the company is "dedicated to the hunting community," spearing the bear may have been a step too far.
"The method used to harvest this animal was reckless and we do not condone it," said Danielle Daly in an email on Thursday evening.
Social media users have called for a boycott of Under Armour products because of its association with the Bowmars, who run a fitness business in Ohio.

(62,444 posts)...you identify what any individual person says with the opinion of some "crowd".
I am sure there are people who are opposed to hunting.
I am sure there are people who don't like hunting, but prefer spear hunting to firearm hunting.

What is it you are trying to say? That if you draw a circle around a wide enough range of opinions, then you can say "all of these people don't agree with each other?"

(18,318 posts)I cannot get over the attitude you describe with great brevity and clarity. I hear it all the time, as if hunting was merely an extension of a Johnny Weissmuller film. No, most hunting is about outwitting an animal, and partaking of the kill. It ain't back-flipping a skateboard over boiling oil. Very few folks take on "big and dangerous" game short of a powerful rifle (a few do use archery equipment, and yes, I have been asked why I don't use this). My answer to folks who have such manly-macho views of hunting is:. I want to kill the animal as fast as possible, and have a maximum chance of recovering it. I have the advantage of a rifle which I can do this, the animal has the advantage of superior detection skills, knowledge of the land, and escape powers. Tarzan wrestling with fake crocodiles in the Apalachicola River can remain on obscure late-night T.V. channels.
