Yikes I went out to install a rubber trunk covering in one of my vehicles. It sat in the sun for 5 minutes and it was all soft. Weatherman say its 94 and feels like 109. My thermometer is 112. I guess I better go get the magnetic signs that are baking in the sun. I'm in upstate 60 miles no. of NY City.

(9,273 posts)Weatherman says it feels like 110. The AC in my old car is dying. Luckily I don't have many places to go and can stay inside most of the time today.
My church is not air-conditioned and can be like a big brick oven. I predict low attendance tomorrow AM.

(26,291 posts)I'm in Flint Township, MI and this has been the hottest, driest summer I can ever remember. It has been in the high 80's to high 90's since June with very little rain. I've seen the heat index hit 115, more than once. Lawns are all dead, flower beds look pretty sad, and the farmers are in a bad way. I've kept my veg garden going because, fortunately, I have a well.
And, my air conditioning is out.
Finally, yesterday, we got more than just a brief sprinkle of rain and today's temps are in the low 80's, with MAYBE a little more rain headed our way. I'm hoping we will get a break from the heat because it is wearing me out.

(3,447 posts)and like 80 and 78, I think it was, for the weekend. Unusually low for this time of year; over the course of my life, this is the 2 week period most typically where it hits the 90s for a while. Of course, we made up for that earlier in the season. And we're in drought conditions, but not toooooo awfully bad. Not like the summer of '88. Good lord...

(3,855 posts)High of 74 today with lots of sunshine. I'll be working on my tan later.

(46,179 posts)Which isn't bad, except for those of us without air conditioning living in under-insulated old places. There are a lot of those in this region. Since it's only hot for a couple of months, air conditioning isn't standard.
My place has a big skylight which I love in the winter. In the summer it lets in direct sunlight most of the day which raises the temperature quite a bit.

(12,158 posts)Triple digits have been the norm here. That's not heat index figures. The relative humidity has been close to 100% BTW is your thermometer in the sun? That gives a false reading.
Today we are actually a bit cooler with increasing chances of rain.

(111,339 posts)It will be in the high 80s today if a storm doesn't come through, and storms are building just to the west so we'll most likely get one. A cold front sent easterly winds howling through the high passes until about 2 AM, cooling us off about 5 degrees.
It'll be back to the 90s tomorrow, but thankfully not the high 90s and triple digits of June and July.

(11,949 posts)But we have been getting our normal storms many days in the late afternoon to cool things down.
Over on the east coast it has been hit and dry.
July was our hottest on record. Mainly because it was drier than normal.
