Lets face it, for many of us, gay or straight, single or coupled, having sex after a few (or a lot) of drinks is just a part of life.
But with marijuana becoming increasingly accepted and legalised across the US, chances are were going to see more and more people facing an important choice when it comes to sex: should I get drunk or high for this?
Dont worry, fam. Science is here for you.
In a new study, researchers from New York University investigated people's responses to both drunk and high sex, and have come up with some pretty interesting insights about which gives you the most benefits, while also putting you at the lowest risk of some of the dangerous - and awkward - pitfalls.
1. There are beer goggles, but not weed goggles
2. Regret was commonly reported after drunk, but not high, sex
3. Drunk sex can make you physically ill, but stoned sex can mess with your head
4. Sex feels better when youre high
5. Drunk sex leads to riskier behaviours

Then there's acid sex.
This is where you cling to each other in a sweaty mess and feel each others flesh crawl.

(62,444 posts)"The team recruited 24 New York-based heterosexual volunteers - 50/50 male and female, aged 18 and 35 - to talk candidly about their sex lives in a series of in-depth interviews. Each volunteer had experienced sex under the influence of both marijuana and alcohol (separately), so could speak to the effects."
It's not illegal to ask people about their experiences. Did you believe the researchers actually got people high and/or drunk, and then had them engage in sex?
Survey/question-based research is fine. You won't get it approved for minors, though. It's always illegal and judged immoral to deal with this, so we know pretty much nothing about THC's effect on immature brains. We know a lot of things affect them differently from adult brains, but really insist that THC is the same for both (not to mention all the other chemicals).
Administering weed is not okay for some purposes. Federal funds, probably not, unless you get a waiver for the research. Using state monies--it depends on the state. Use private funds, you can probably get it approved. Esp. if you are just monitoring what the subjects' behavior would have been.
We confuse what's legal sometimes with what funding sources permit. Even under the "human stem-cell ban" that people think existed under Bush II there was a lot of stem cell research that didn't involve the approved stem-cell lines. It just used non-federal money or equipment furnished by federal grant money (even for other research goals).

(466 posts)They rarely ever grant it but they do sometimes. That's how University of Mississippi is the only place in the US that can grow weed legally under federal law.
This study did not administer drugs to people.

(356 posts)A "whiskey d..k " and a lack of inhibitions leads to more fun than zoning out. That's just my experience though. I never liked the pot high. But the important thing is that both sides responsibly continue this research at every opportunity.
